The skin on my face isn't in the best condition. I don't have acne really, it's just red and doesn't look healthy. What is the best face wash to use? Any foods to eat? Any lotions?

Besides usuall supplements (good multivit and fish oil), i'd also recommend nettle extract (oral), and some lotion containing salicylic and glycol acid. For more specific product you should visit dermatologist.

No I don't take any vitamins or supplements. I've been using Triaz cleanser from the dermatologist for the past 6 months or so. My skin is dry, irritated, and it feels chapped. What brand of African Black Soap should I look to buy?

/\ Aqueous cream. It works wonders. Also not washing your face with soap will work. Wash it with a paraffin wax based gel (e.g. Oilatum).

Using razors that are designed for sensitive skin will also help. Also, don't use normal aftershave - use a moisturising aftershave gel.

I honestly think it could be related to diet. I used to have an eating disorder, and back then my hair was all thin and dull and gross and my nails broke off constantly, my skin was all a mess. Im not saying you are not eating enough, but if you are not eating the right things and not taking any vitamins to fill in the nutritional gaps, it could be really hurting your skin (not to mention the rest of you). A good multivitamin once a day and a fish oil supplement would help a lot. And eat your veggies! :)

The brand I use is from Medina Industrial Corp., in Brooklyn NY. They do have a retail store-should be in the phone book.

Or you can find it at places that deal with African-American products. House of Nubian is the first that comes to mind as I've used them already.

Maybe the Triaz cleanser from your doctor is what's causing your face to look the way it is. Why did you get a prescription from the derm for a cleanser??? In my experience I've learned that dermotologists are unnecessary. I say stop using the cleanser your derm gave you and start taking a multi vitamin and fish oil. Try and eat enough fruits and vegetables, get some sun and maybe even take a zinc supplement as it is supposed to help skin. Just watch out how much zinc you take because it can effect copper absorption and cause an imbalance.

I wouldn't recommend putting anything acidic on your face. It's acid.... acid burns... thus making your face more red. Soap isn't even necessary for your face because it can make your face dry so use a mild soap if you must.
Drink as much water as you can everyday.

Also don't have so much faith in a dermotologist. I have had my troubles with them. They just give you more and more drugs. They consider you as a lab rat. "Here put this on your face... oh it didnt work too well, put that on your face... oh it caused redness.... put this on your face for the redness.... ok take 2 pills a day for this." You see what I mean? They WANT you to take prescription drugs... It's about the $$$$$. Stop putting poison on your face or taking poison pills that they give you. Search for natural remedies given by mother earth. Watch out for the synthetic shit.

African black soap with shea butter is fantastic for skin in general. I have super-sensitive skin so go for cleaning/moisturising products that are as natural as possible. You may wish to check allergies to some chemicals like sodium laureth sulfate that are in a lot of soaps/shampoos etc.

As people have mentioned frequently above, diet is also a major factor.

Eat fruit (particulary berries all kinds; blueberries, raaspberies, red currants, strawberries etc.) If you need to Put all said berries in a blender with a couple iof spoonfuls of natural yoghurt, two freeshly squeezed oranges, Repeat once a day.

Drink lodas and loads of water.

TOP TIP: get plenty of sleep. Plenty of good quality sleep. Not sleep where you are passing our from pills or alcohol (no offence intened).

See the difference in a week or less!

agreed. but don't fuck the supplements.

be good to your skin, rub good things in it. lavender essential oil, shea butter, evening primrose oil, . . . there0s heaps of stuff that is good, those are just my favourites.

Another vote for fish oil capsules here. Omega-3's are fantastic for your skin in general. And furthermore, if your redness is due to any inflammatory response (ie. related to allergies or eczema for example) the natural anti-inflammatory effect of fish oil will help counteract it.

Other good skin supplements are vitamin A and zinc.

Apart from that, use fragrance and chemical-free natural products - you should see the crap they put in skincare and soaps these days.

I don't want to brag but for somebody on Methadone with a Benzodiazepine addiction, even though I rarely use illicit street drugs, I have pretty good skin and a clear face apperance. Basically I just wash my face three times a day, shower every day (maybe twice on occasions), use a facial wash in the morning and night, exercise, take a multivitamin complex, B-Complex, and Fish Oil. I stay away from fatty and really sugary foods and try not to snack much.

Unfortunately, you cannot get "fresh" air in LA. i've dissected the lungs of city living folks and their lungs are all black in color from the pollution. then i dissect a corpse and examine their lungs and they look clean and non-black like most healthy colored tissues-pinkish/light brown(ie: Colorado)..

i've seen dozens of corpes like this donated to science for dissection, and it's always like this. the corpse's with "black" looking lungs were not smokers either nor did they die from lung cancer. So, I know i'm breathing toxic air in LA, but i'm not going to die of lung cancer cuz i don't smoke cigs, yet i'm sure my health probably is not optimal. thus, i train and do cardio indoors at a gym instead of jogging along the streets with car/industrial exhaust fumes.
