i find that when people who aren't too familiar with cannabis, and have "a bad one", their breathing patterns seem to be off..i'm curious..is abnormal breathing common when somebody takes a relatively strong dose of thc, resulting in anxiety attacks , etc..?? basically i'm wondering if the psychedelic properties of weed will basically make you get insightful to the point where one's breathing patterns alter, leading to panic attacks and so on..?? i know this is a really stupid subject, but i'm coming to a slight theory that regular breathing patterns is important for a beginner , and perhaps meditating for a first experieince on weed would be optimal to an average "get high" session..

you're right, regular breathing is very important when you're early to smoking. or anytime, at that. if you can keep your breathing slow and even, you can probably avert the panic feeling that comes from marijuana. best thing to do, however, is to think about something else, that way your body goes on autopilot and everything goes smooth and evenly

This stage is actually quite interesting , ive never had it happen to me . even back when i first started smoking . how does it vary from person to person wether or not they allow the anxiety to take over .. is it based on what each persons neuro reaction is ? or is it maybe psycoschematic *sp*.

its a very bad example but let me try to give one..

17 year old jimmy, spelling bee champion and math whizz, tries weed for thefirst time with his good buddy. he obviously assumes he knows enough about life, and is smart enough to function in his surroundings. the high kicks in, and his thoughts race, and without knowing his breathing slows down/quickens. soon after, his body realises "somethings not right" , and goes into panic mode.."i dont feel good", "i should go home", etc. resulting in a bad experience. his friends house wasn't the best setting, for he was used to playing basketball and swimming for fun, but now being high..avoiding trouble and "getting through this" is all that matters.

obviously a good 1st experience, etc doesn't apply to this thread.

i would assume a "proper" (lol) setting would be optimal for new drugs..if you were in a calm setting, with one to guide you, and to ease the new senses that are to come, i assume it would be alot more fun than going paranoid and spending your high hiding from authorities and parents.

oh and i assume that the abnormal breathing wouldn't be recognised by the individual..and if he/she did, it would probably be worse, spending your high regulating your breathing.

i just bringthis whole breathing topic up because from my experience, it's a big factor of a newbie's high.. whether they admit it or not.

The first newbie problem that arose for me, personally, was the whole "how the hell do I get my legs to stop twitching??!!"

Then it was breathing. I suggest either trying to freak yourself out by breathing really hard/fast (what I call "diving in"), or trying to breath in and out for the longest and slowest possible.

That's the worst thing you could do really. It's what contributes to panic attacks in the first place..

You gotta breath through your belly, breath in through the nose and breathe out through your mouth. Taking air in should take half of the time you breathe out, so breathe in for 3 secs, breathe out for 6 seconds.
