Your teacher is an idiot. That's how they harvest opium. With their hands.
If you were to touch pure powdered fentanyl (a very strong synthetic opioid), and your hands were wet with DMSO, then maybe there might be a problem.

^ When I was in the hospital, there was this fellow that made embalming fluid, and the poor bastard didn't get tied off correctly when they put his suit on, so the DMSO fumes got into his suit, plus ethanol fumes. Now the guy had a knife that read "until you die", which is why he got in trouble the first place, then they drug/alcohol tested him and the ethanol showed up in his blood, even though he was sober for over 30 years.
