I'm a member of the Blurt Foundation on Facebook which is a great group of people who try to tackle the stigma surrounded mental health - there's often some great posts on there!

Anyway, just come across this picture today titled 'If Physical Diseases Were Treated Like Mental Illness' and it made me chuckle as I've had similar things said to me whilst struggling with depression!

It's a great page for support, so give it a 'Like'!

I was once told be a Psychiatrist during my initial assessment (in the UK) that he couldn't see anything for me to be depressed about so I should just 'snap out of it and try and have fun with friends'...

I've never felt worth so little in my life :-/

A psychiatrist told you that!? That's terrible :( I hope you changed psychiatrists and are able to get the help you need and deserve <3

Mental illness is a disability; it can be debilitating and severely stunt one's personal growth. I hate the stigma surrounding it however, when people see the scars on my arm, then it's ok; I'm sick. The whole idea about having a visible disability needs to go!
