identifying magic mushrooms

please be careful. foraging for wild mushrooms can be EXTREMELY dangerous. pictures on a computer aren't enough. they're should be mushroom clubs/societies near where you are that might help you out. lots of people die from misidentifying mushrooms.. there's a huge difference between the magic ones and the rest of the kingdom. im not saying don't.. but please believe me when i say identifying mushrooms in the wild can be difficult and dangerous.

If your in Melbourne, you won't find anything until it gets colder and damper. But, you can buy Paul Stamets' "Identifying Psilocybin Mushrooms" (i don't think thats the title) from Borders in chadstone, its in the gardening section...

wikid thanks i went mushie hunting in perth and cn ident there kinds i just waanted to know what to look out for my first trip i was gonna just take some pics and post them XD im not stupid enough to eat straigh outta the ground

Do not eat any mushrooms until you have a 100% positive ID. The Shroomery is very good for this.

i might just find someone with some exp with Melbourne mushies. I've tried copper tops and blue meanies and found they had similar effect, do the effect vary from differnt species?

You're correct in saying that pictures alone aren't enough. You certainly don't need to visit a mycology society though. Get a decent book on mushrooms, learn to identify by features, read up on poisonous look a likes, learn to ID those to. Look at lots of pictures of the species you are after. You can do it safely and effectively by yourself. As peeps have said the Shroomery is a great resource, the people in their hunting forum are very knowledgeable.

I actually have a copy of this excellent guide on an ebook if the OP or anyone else would like a copy, shoot me a private message

if you start now.... you should be able to do enough research in the next 2-3 years before you attempt picking your own mushrooms

but like everyone else on this site you likely NEED DRUGS NOW and waiting probably isn't an option for you

please don't edit my posts mods

just ban me

2-3 years? Really? I must have a natural gift for it 'cos it took me about 2-3 hours of reading and then probably 4-5 of preliminary scouting/picking...when I was sixteen 8)

To learn to identify all the mushrooms in your local area or did you learn how to just pick one psychoactive one?

That is dangerous as hell.... you need to know about more than just 1 or two species before you go picking!

I may be weird... but dying of liver failure or having to get a transplant doesn't sound like a fun time to me!

Better to support the author I reckon :)

That's a choice you can make. I personally feel as though the author, would want this material to be shared within the community of mushroom hunters to help ensure accurate ID's. I guess you would have to know a bit about the author to make that decision though

There are not an extreme number of poisonous mushrooms, the overwhelming part is harmless... but on the other hand the difference between some poisonous ones and edible or psychedelic ones can be pretty small.
So small that I would call it quite foolish to attempt to hunt and ID magic mushrooms without substantial research and mycological knowledge.

Do NOT go wander around with an internet description of a shroom and eat one that you find that resembles it. A very good visual match does not constitute a positive ID since there may be others that look exactly like it, that have differing properties not easily seen by the novice. Something like spores looking different or a slightly different anatomy.
