I assume the basic allergy test for RC's goes like:
"Ingest 1/20th-1/40th of the threshold dose, and wait."
Would this be a safer alternative. Prick yourself with a clean 30 ga needle, wet it, stick it into substrate, and make an identical prick several cm away. A negative test would produce the same reaction as the control prick, a positive test irritation similar to an allergy test positive (a swelling).
If a reaction occurs it can be dealt with hydrocortisone/diphenhydramine topically.
I don't know how common it is (actual reactions during allergy tests), but it would seem a safer way from saving yourself from an anaphylactic reaction by skin testing a tiny amount. Comments? Flaws in my logic?
I'm just thinking out loud, and curious. I probably don't even do an allergy test as often as I really should, and "I'm only allergic to tree/grass pollen" is really no excuse.
