I think it's just a difference in common quantities purchased:
1 point = 0.1 gram = 100 mg
1 gram = 10 points = 1000 mg
1 quarter = 1/4 ounce = about 7 gram
1 8-ball = 1/8 oz = 3.5 gram (I *think*)
I assume this is referring to cut speed, because I'd hate to see the effect of someone eating 35 points of base. Points are often used as a measure for a "dose" of base interchangably with grams of cut speed, I guess there is usually about a point of base cut with 9 points of glucose etc. in a normal gram of cut speed, depending on the quality of the deal (ie. 1:9 or 1:8 cut).
