hey guys,

in 2008 I had a head injury that has resulted in severe neck and back pain today. When I left the hospital a week after the injury, I was RX'd 7.5mg loritabs but eventually stopped taking them and tried to ignore the pain. However, I am a serious lacrosse player and after every season the pain has proceeded to get worse.. now to the point where i havent had a good night sleep in months. I cant ignore the pain anymore so I made an appointment with a pain specialist who will hopefully RX me some pain meds. the only problem is that my tolerance is high because I have been self-mediacating myself for the past few years. call it illegal if you must. but my pain had to be treated and I was too busy with school to get mixed up with the government's system of pharmaceuticals. I admit it was a mistake. now i am trying to do everything legitimately. I need to convince my doctor to give me something that will treat my level of pain and meet my tolerance level as well without looking like a common fiend. sorry if that word offends anyone but I am in serious pain and at a loss for a solution.

thank you for reading

you need to heal your body. contact sports won't do this. if you want to play lacrosse and be on pills then that's your decision. just know that this combination will keep you in pain indefinitely.

no i dont play lacrosse anymore. im more focused on school and being able to concentrate than anything. lacrosse contributed to the pain i currently have so i wouldnt imagine that continuing to play it would be a good idea.

If you need pain medication, speak to a doctor. There's only so much we can do for you here (and we can't recommend doctors, tell you what to say to doctors to get pain medication, help you find medication illegally, etc).

I recommend speaking with a doctor as soon as possible.

I'm sorry dude, but having seen this happen again and again it's hard to have any sympathy for you.

People should realize pain medications are there for pain - legitimate pain. If you're abusing them and suddenly find you need them to do their real job you've just shot yourself in the foot.

Also I don't really know what you want to come from this thread. :\

^ I think he's saying he's been using them for straight-up pain the whole time. A story I kinda find hard to believe, no offense dude. You mean you never abused them? After years? That said I'd say all you can do is come clean with the doctor. They have patient-client confidentiality. At the worst he'll try to wean you off your drugs to make sure you don't get WDs. I don't know what else to tell you dude... you did kinda screw yourself by not going to a doctor in the first place.

I have experience of chronic pain because my mother (age 73) has to be on pain management.

She goes to a local pain management clinic. She has had to take some "lessons" or classes on effective pain management, and she gets methadone from the pain clinic.

You might check your local listings to see if there is a pain management center near you.

Hi korbud,

Not sure what kind of responses you're looking for in this thread... I am going to shift this over to The Dark Side for now, hoping you get the support you need <3
Let me know if you have any questions.

If you're seeing a pain specialist, be 100% honest with them from second one. They get people trying to scam scripts off them constantly, and the fact that you've self-medicated will certainly be a black mark. If you're honest though ,and more than a little bit fortunate, you should hopefully be able to get the help you need.

Good luck. :)

Then why did you say that you are a serious lacrosse player? This implied that it was continuing to play sports that exacerbated your injury. Is there anything in particular that worsens your injury?

Why didn't you seek treatment for your injury before becoming dependent upon the medications you are obtaining illicitly?

My advice to you is to be completely honest with your doctor about how you are obtaining your medications. Your doctor will not be able to help you if you are not honest.

theres a lot more meds out there than just opiates. (although they work quite well for me when my pain is bad)
gabapentin, pregabalin, anti inflamatories, amitripyline...etc

plus theres physio, acupuncture, pain psychology etc
