Recently I was an unfortunate victim of a shooting, Thank God I'm Alive! One of the bullets is still lodged in my pelvic area, since doctors found it risky to remove.

I was self-employed, and because of my current condition I am unable to work. I reside in Quebec, Canada and I applied with the IVAC program which was reffered to me by the police and it helps crime victims with financial compensation. I did the application and I mailed it, but my only concern was that this program does not really cater to the needs of someone that is self employed.

I wanted to know if anyone can help me by telling me any other course of actions, any other programs or agency, whether federal, provincial or private, that can assist me financially during this difficult time.

Thank you in advance and any help will be much appreciated.

I can tell you that religious organizations love to help, even if only with a box of food, payment of a utility bill or some other small help for you.

That sounds horrible DCW. I'm glad you're still with us. You might be able to get more help if you call or go to your local social services office and explain your situation to them. They should be able to tell you about any other programs that might be available to you. Take care. <3

Thanks for all the responses.. I am still trying to find something in Quebec specifically since the laws and regulations vary from province to province..so if anyone comes across anything, please do let me know...

Thank you again

I'm sorry to hear what happened DCW.

Here is a website which has compiled the information of all assistance programs across Canada. I hope it's some help to you

Specifically, here's the contact info for the Quebec one:

Quebec

Direction l’indemnisation des victimes d’actes criminels

1199 rue Bleury, 9ième étage

P. O. Box 6056

Succursale Centreville

EDIT: I see you've already contacted IVAC. The best thing you can do is give some of these places a call and discuss your situation. They will be able to help you better than we can.

I don't much about that but have you contacted the CAVAC? Don't know if it's separate from IVAC. They seem to provide consultations and answer questions you might have. cavac.qc.ca
