Hello all. To finish my question, I want to know if it sounds bad to ask the doctor to do an analysis or something. Up until I was aware enough to hide the obvious symptoms, (5th grade) every single one of my teachers told my parents I probably had ADD. My parents believe ADD doesn't exist, and I've been suffering the consequences of ADD because of fear of disapproval from family. Even though my habits are off, I usually can pull through what needs to be done causing me no sleep. I'm on my parents insurance and when I went to the ENT doctor, it showed up on the mailcard and I really don't want them to see I went to a psychoanalyst or something. How can I ask the doctor for meds (I don't care for which) to get them up front without a referal to another doc? I dont want to look like a "drug seeker." I have no other mental health issues. I'm probably on the wrong forum since I really dislike drugs personally, but I respect other peoples personal reasons. I am however a smokeless tobacco user and can possibly post on those threads, I wanna pay the forum back for any help I get. I'm 19 btw. thanks

Maybe I was thinking about a different forum, I thought this was full of tobacco questions but I don't see many. But hopefully I can get help with this anyway.

I'm not sure how every psych. works, but this is how it worked for me. I went to see a psych. for problems with addiction and possibly bi-polar, and just after him asking me a bunch of questions he immediately said "I think you have serious ADHD." It was THEN that I told him my teachers and friends when I was growing up had always said they think I have ADHD. He then had me take a test, and then schedule another appointment to do more testing. After all of that, I was prescribed Vyvanse and Adderall. If I were you, do NOT ask for any type of medication (even strattera), but that is just my opinion. Just tell them you think you have a problem and maybe they will go through the same process that they went through with me. Good luck man, hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. The only thing is since I'm on my parents insurance the name and type of doctor will show up and I'd rather avoid it. All these guys at my school have scripts for the strongest adderal and just sell them, I doubt they went to a psych. I'm in a tough spot, I just dont know what to really tell him. I have an appointment tomorrow for swollen lymph node and thought it could be a good time to bring it up.

it is against the rules to help you get script from doctors on bluelight. i cannot instruct you or advice you how to get "xxX" from your Dr

^^Oh yeah, that's true. Well, at least I phrased my response so it had nothing to do with that.

Sorry, didn't read the rules. However, I'm not really asking how to get a script per se. I'd much rather a permanent solution. I'm asking how to bring up the situation to be handled just between him and me without me looking like I'm trying to score some meds.

It's just kind of embarrassing for me. If there is no way that the doctor could authorize it without more help, then I'll just suffer through the embarrassment. it's not like the parents will disown me, its just that theyre really traditional so they might ignorantly think I'm "retarded"

Hey man, welcome to Bluelight. As you're learning, you're violating some forum guidelines. Please review the OD Guidelines as well as the Bluelight User Agreement as you agreed to do upon creation of your account.

We are not here to help you acquire controlled substances from doctors, regardless of the legitimacy of your condition. This is clearly stated in the OD guidelines and there's really not much more to say than this. I'll allow this thread to stay open until someone violates the guidelines again.

Again, sorry. I just posted in a hurry and could have rephrased to just bringing up the ADD without seeming like a college-kid faker. Just my circumstances were different and I didn't want to go to a shady doctor who will prescribe anything. But I won't ask anymore but I'd like to hear other stories if anyone knows if other treatments actually work for ADD.

Ya be honest with the doc a lot o them love writing add scripts. If he is against it find a new doc. You have a right to see whatever doc you want until a solution is found

Why do you think that is? If I had to guess it would be because some doctors might think having more focus can be helpful to just any regular person, but people with ADD just NEED it to function. I sat in the library for a total of 20 hours this week studying for my math test, I say sat because 15 of those hours were spent dazing off and reading random things online. It's like I have no control :(

In the States at least, once you turn 18, all of your medical information is protected by privacy laws (mostly HIPPA). No-one*, not even your patents, can get any medical information from your doctor, unless you specifically authorise it. (*Exceptions are made for law enforcement and emergencies.) These laws are taken very seriously in the health care industry. The insurance claim may list who the doctor is and what they do, but what happens during the consultation is strictly confidential. You can tell your parents whatever you want, and they'll have no way of checking it.

I'm not sure how these laws apply to prescriptions that are filled and billed to the insurance, but I imagine that the details are not released by your insurance company. You might want to check on that one.

I know about the confidentiality, but I think when the meds get billed it shows up. I might just briefly explain my symptoms and if he says that I need to be analyzed by someone else first, I might just wait for a little while and research more on how I can "hide" being analyzed. And I plan on doing the tests as best as I can, and have no question about it that I have ADD and will probably be medicated if there are no other ways to go about it.

i'd go for vyvanse. it is the "Abuse proof" according to the FDA, so it is "safer and less addictive/abusable" than IR adderall or dexedrine

Would he likely prescribe it without a psych appt (note: I'm not asking HOW to get it or anything, I'm asking if it is common protocol) to see how I react? I am not looking for any euphoria or intense study ability, I just want my mind to settle down so I can focus on things.

i cant help you get scripts or talk about them on bluelight. go with your gut and take my advice into account and use your best judgment.
