I.B.S. ( Irritable bowel syndrome )

getting away from fatty stuff works actually?

I supplement with olive oil and coconut oil nightly and my morning dumps are 'effortless'.

I dont have IBS but could supplementing with some healthy fats at night work for you too???

passed this on and she has been trying it, saying it has helped but she did not have any luck with the goats cheese, or any other goats products.
she reckons the olive oil is good and is now puttin various items in it to taste better, currently trying garlic with it, she can not find coconut oil in the shops here, any luck with any other kinds?

sorry for the somewhat misinformed question, but what's the difference between IBS and celiac disease?

I ask as i'm celiac + allergic to wheat (minus the gluten as well), requiring adrenaline shots during anaphylaxis...

After nearly a year off gluten and wheat, i ingested some contaminated beans (w/modified food starch) and have been incapacitated since - 4 days now.. anyway sorry just venting

I'm now seriously studying these GI diseases and the cross-over symptoms can be quite similar in e.g IBS vs celiac disease

Main symptoms before my diagnosis:
-hypersomnia
-constipation -- only have bowel movement(s) every 4-6 days (w/the aid of coffee/laxatives), liquid stools mixed with blood/tissue
-frequent migraines
-'chronic' bloating of the gut/intestines etc - making it difficult to breathe
-malnutrition - despite good diet and high-dose supplementation
-constant cravings/hunger for gluten; i could drink 24 beers in a row at night and go to class the next morning (w/no sleep) feeling energized
-low blood pressure / cold extremities
-cold sweats
-hypertension
-'chronic' dehydration/pH imbalance
-bad breath
-dermatitis

i'm curious what your guys' symptoms are like and hope this thread stays alive. cheers :)

I came down with what I was told sounded like IBS. I'm not so sure that that label works, though. My issues began after a round of antibiotics, and after I had been for some time consuming candied ginger (love) and cashews in excess.

As well, I began smoking another variety of weed and seemed to associate it with the illness... but I don't see how it would have directly caused it.

Initially, DGL, a probiotic, and an enzyme formula called Megazyme brought me out of it. I was better than id been in awhile. Then within a month I developed an allergy to egg- which was an ingredient in the enzyme formula, and symptoms got worse... but different.

I have since, down the road, found my illness exhibits the characteristics of a bacterial/fungal overgrowth. I mal-absorb or abnormally handle certain sugar- the only form I can handle that I've tried is dextrose. Other forms cause light headedness, lethargy, weakness... but I stay away from all of them.

Down the line I tried candied ginger again, and experienced slurring of speech, a headache, extreme tiredness...

Apparently fructose malabsorption can have very similar symptoms to IBS. I know I must have already been compromised before my round of antibiotics... and that and my desire for sweets and fat just fueled the growth of the bad micro-organisms. I've given up sugary food and many fructose containing vegetables, and am much more comfortable... but I'm still dealing with problems related possibly to overgrowth in the guts.

I'm currently practicing a very limited diet, taking 4 tbsp of coconut oil daily, urine therapy, among some others.

The sudden development of allergies lately makes me confident that my issues are do to overgrowth. I think a lot of these things are tied.

I've heard that green smoothies help. Dark leafy greens, fruit, water, high speed blender.

Have you tried going gluten-free? After about 2 weeks off gluten, i felt like my body and mind were 10 years younger.. and it gradually got better and better

Sounds like candida overgrowth, which was the first symptom i pinpointed about 8 years ago (at 19) - that definitely explains the severe dehydration (drinking low-pH water only makes it worse), severe bloating, sugar cravings and weird feelings (lightheadedness, nausea, migraine, restlessness etc) that go along with it. -- IME, garlic extract, chlorophyll (and alkaline foods), B-vitamins, magnesium and some roots like licorice work best to eliminate it

During an hour-long colonic (which cleans out about half of the colon, apparently), i witnessed all this strange stuff coming out of me through the tube -- undigested food and a seemingly neverending amount of yellow liquid. I still remember the GI specialist saying, "I've never seen anything like this in my life"... and within the hour, i was feeling so much better. Roughly 5lbs of liquid off my weight

Anyway, there's also this study (abstract below) done in 2003 regarding candida as a possible trigger of celiac:

Is Candida albicans a trigger in the onset of coeliac disease?
Nieuwenhuizen WF, Pieters RH, Knippels LM, Jansen MC, Koppelman SJ.

Coeliac disease is a T-cell-mediated autoimmune disease of the small intestine that is induced by ingestion of gluten proteins from wheat, barley, or rye. We postulate that Candida albicans is a trigger in the onset of coeliac disease. The virulence factor of C albicans-hyphal wall protein 1 (HWP1)-contains amino acid sequences that are identical or highly homologous to known coeliac disease-related alpha-gliadin and gamma-gliadin T-cell epitopes. HWP1 is a transglutaminase substrate, and is used by C albicans to adhere to the intestinal epithelium. Furthermore, tissue transglutaminase and endomysium components could become covalently linked to the yeast. Subsequently, C albicans might function as an adjuvant that stimulates antibody formation against HWP1 and gluten, and formation of autoreactive antibodies against tissue transglutaminase and endomysium.

PS - I'd bet money that most people diagnosed with IBS have mis-diagnosed celiac disease. Even with all the gluten-free products now on the market, it seems many doctors are still relatively clueless about it

^ Candida overgrowth is what I have been worried that I have, for some time. I made the mistake of stopping use of probiotics when on antibiotics, and continued eating sweets, and after the primary infection (staph) went crazy on sugary foods, like the candied ginger, chocolate... but this was nothing really "crazy" it was normal for my intake.

I've been gluten free for the better part of a few years now. I have seemed to handle it when I have consumed it, though. But if I have candida overgrowth, it's better to stay away from most gluten containing products anyway, as you as well say.

I feel I've been battling an imbalance, as I believe most people are. By some interpretation, it's why life exists in the first place, but I won't go there. :) But I have since I was young been prescribed antibiotics every other month- at least, especially during the spring/fall, for sinus infections and ear infections. "Probiotic" was only something I heard in my adult years.

With probiotics, I've even developed an allergy to certain ones of those, I believe. I feel sicker when I take them than when I don't. So I don't. Right now I'm just trying to knock down the bad bacteria/yeast using Coconut oil- though I might have to switch to using a time-released version of capryllic acid to insure that a more potent dose is being delivered to most of the digestive system. Eventually I plan on experimenting to find the right balancing probiotics that I can tolerate, if it's needed.

I'm also supplementing with Bentonite, which I forgot to mention in my last post. My carbs are still high, but I don't feel I really have much of a choice. I need fiber, and for some reason flax just doesn't really help me. Also, just recently I've been practicing, well.. drinking my own urine... "Auto-therapy". The basis for how it might work sounds plausible, and I've pretty much gotten over the idea that urine is totally a "waste product". It's a by-product. I've done a lot of reading on it, and I'm not sure what the cause is (could be the coconut oil), but the past couple of days I've felt better than I have in a long time. If I have a headache, I can't wait to pee and drink some of my urine, because, well, it seems to take care of it within a half hour. Kind of like I'm making my own antidote.

I actually don't experience bloating anymore. Nor do I experience any cravings for sugar, although sometimes I do trick myself and take in a "dose" of dextrose feeling that I might be low on blood-sugar (light head.), which is still a possibility.

A colonic is something else I've considered. I have a voice (female) constantly with me, if I'm lucky (when in need), that has told me I need to get a cleansing of that nature. I've just been reluctant because .. I am a hairy dude and I don't imagine anyone wants to see what comes out of a hairy dude's arse... you know. I just imagine seeing this pretty female performing the procedure. If they were a male I'd get over it quicker. Ha.

How is your state currently, and how many years have you been battling, or finally not battling Candida?

My main symptoms anymore, regularly, are light-head. It goes away, regularly, when the sun does... Could be that those prick-yeasts are more awake in the day-time... or.. I don't know. Maybe I have severe allergies. Maybe both.

P.S. I apologize if this is getting away from "IBS"-specifically.

^I was able to get rid of the candida for good once i quit drinking gluten-filled alcohol about 2 years ago (beer and most grain-alcohols- i can only handle wine & some gluten-free beer rarely now), which i think is what caused it in the beginning when i was 19 and developed the dreaded beer gut that just wouldn't go away.. After going gluten-free last september, my health is better than ever

From memory, i've always had a sensitivity to wheat (migraine, constipation, fatigue etc) but didn't make the connection till i was 20 and it really started to take its toll on my health and life.. Not being able to get out of bed for days, missing classes, feeling like i had the flu all the time etc..

Do i have I.B.S? ?

These symtpoms i have had for many years, im 19 now. I remember them since 14

I can never "empty fully" when i go.
Therefore...
I end up pooing twice in the mornings usually which is annoying.

If im going out to on a saturday night or something, i keep feeling like i need to go a poo and in fact i keep going ... Not nice when you only just freshened yourself up half an hour ago.

I do get nervous before a night out though

id say i poo about 3 - 4 times a day

^ What's your diet and activity level like, darksidedsam? When I'm very active and eating well, I poop three to five times a day typically. I don't have IBS.

While diet and activity level can't rule out IBS, it is a good starting point in my opinion.

Also, being nervous before going out can make you not want to poop so that you have to later. :P

i wont lie.
I dont do much in a day.
My diet is average i say, Although i eat weetabix for breakfast and beans on toast for lunch nearly every single day

Weetabix and beans will both make ya poop. :P I don't think you have anything to worry about, but if you are concerned or match other symptoms of IBS, go see your doctor--Or wait for someone who knows more about IBS than I do to see your post. :)

Sounds more like social anxiety and a bowel that wakes up 30 minutes later than the rest of your body.

I have IBS and I believe its stress related. Could have been triggered by my on and off cocaine and mdma use though.

anyhow, I was precribed Librax (which combines a mild benzo + some other shit) and has chilled my stomach+mind out a bit. I also stated eating healthy and started eating frozen yogurt with probiotics in them. I can't say for sure if the frozen yogurt helped or not for sure but I think it did.

I am glad to say that 8 months on I feel almost back to normal. My only complaints are that my farts smell poisonous and after eating certain foods I sometimes have to either rush to the bathroom or deal with some pain for a minute or two. Definitely can interfere with pussy prospects.

Hello everyone! I'm a new member, just joined in a few days ago and lurked around the forum so far. But now, that I found this thread, I was thinking about asking those of you who suffer from IBS how you manage to handle both your drug use and your medical GI condition.

I myself have IBS-A and its onset wasn't drug-related, in fact back when it started, I wasn't even dreaming about doing drugs. Well, I've become a bit of a recreational drug user as of late, so I would be interested in any input related to how you people manage to do drugs while having a chronic GI condition. What kinds of drugs upset mostly your GI tract? What routes of admnistration have been better for you in regard to the GI health? I would be interested in any kind of information or experience related to the topic of recreational drug use and dealing with IBS.

For the moment, I haven't tried many substances, but I want to experience with all sorts of drugs in the future. I've recently done codeine for the first time (and it made my tummy feel great, besides the lovely opiate buzz - although I spent the whole day eating insoluble fiber, to counteract possible constipation). Other than that, I use caffeine (guarana tea) to get a buzz and theobromine (baking cocoa powder), which gets me pretty stoned and at peace with the world. They both are quite qentle on my GI tract. I am definitely interested in making my drug use a pleasurable pastime and I think it's not worth it if it worsens my condition, I will avoid any drug that other people have had bad times with IBS-wise. This is the reason why I posted this in the first place and I thank you in advance.
