I leave in a nice four bedroom home with my daughters. We have been very happy here, and we like our neighbor, and I have become really good friends with everyone.
Last saturday, I was at my neighbors and we were just handing out. As I was leaving she asked me to sit her dogs food outside on my way home so she could just chill. Now, she is also my land ladies grand daughter. I took the bowl of food outside and was about to sst it down, it bite the hell out of my right leg. I dropped the bowl at that time and he still bite me again, but the second bite was not as deep.
I went to see an attorney today. I feel bad for doing this, but I do not have health insurance, I can only afford to get insurance for my daughters not me. I need stitches but the doctors say they can't stitch a dog bite because of infection. I already have have to change antibotics because its infected. The dog is hadn't even had its shots. I got a tecnis shot. I have another doctor appointment tomorrow because I have nerve damage. I can't feel my leg where the dog bite is, and my toes feel like they are asleep or filled with sand. I had to go back to the emergency room to get another antibotics because this one isn't working, my leg is infected. The dog had not had it's shots.
Then my land lady said I had to get rid of my pit bull Allie because dogs are a liability. So she said Allie of shes breaking my lease. So I have besided to move. I can not let my dog down and Allie didn't bite anyone. Her dog did. Am
I in the wrong for sueing my friends home owners insurance. Honestly I don't know what else to do. I need a way to see a doctor and I can't work. I also now have to move.
What are all of you'll's opinions?

If this is the only way for you to be covered(which it should be covered by your friend or their insurance)-then I would go ahead and move along with the plans you have. As you said, you can't afford to get these injuries covered-and you may need to see doctors more and get meds/procedures done; the right thing for the owner of the dog to do would be to offer to pay for your recovery. But these days, of course the "right" thing is rarely done.

It is ashame that because their dog bit you, and you just want them to now do right by you, that they are actually holding a fault of THEIRS with THEIR DOG-against you; telling you to get rid of your dog now? They aren't real friends.

Bottom line, you have to take care of yourself, and your family-and the injury you are dealing with also needs care-so I say go ahead with your original plan; the only way you will rightfully receive the coverage for your bite is if you proceed with the help of the law. Sue if that's what it takes.

I hope things start to work out better for you, and your situation gets mended-along with your leg! Remember youve got to take care of yourself and do what's best for you and your children.

Stella, I'm sorry to hear this happened--the worst part is that you have been so happy there and now have to move! If they did not offer to pay immediately--which they should have, then don't feel bad about going through the homeowners insurance --that's what it is for.
I really hope that it starts healing better soon. That is scary that it is infected still after one round of antibiotics. And it is sad that your landlady's reaction was vindictive rather than encouraging her grand daughter to take responsibility for what happened.

Thats not great at all, I can't comment on the legals because they are totally different in the UK, we have a dangerous dogs act so you would just call the cops.

If my dog ever bit anyone I'd have him put down immediately and look to compensate the victim ASAP, sorry to hear your in such a bad situation<3

Best Wishes

Is there any particular reason why you simply didn't approach the owner of the dog that bit you with your medical bills and ask her to pay them? I don't understand why you immediately went to an attorney.

With regard to your landlady's requirement that you move because you are in violation of your lease by owning a dog, it really is her choice. She is, however, obligated by law to give you the required notice of vacancy to a tenant that is required by a landlord in your location. She is correct about allowing a tenant to own a Pit Bull, her home owner's insurance premium will be affected if not discontinued, unfortunately.

telling you to get rid of your dog now? They aren't real friends.
^that.

What I would do if I were you: Go talk to the bitch and tell her to pay for your leg. It's absolutely common-sense she must pay for your shit because she can't control her fucking dog, can't even get it's shots done. If she doesn't pay for your leg, sue her for every penny she's got. If she comments, smack her face in, kill her dog and chop it up. When she's sleeping, sneak into her house and put the chopped up dog parts in her refrigerator. That will teach them a lesson!

You will probably have to move out of the neighborhood after that, but at least you showed them who's boss! Right?

Do not kill your dog just because some stupid bitch says so, that's retarded. Who the fuck are these people? Seriously I'd flip out in your situation.. How are you handling it so well?

If you don't want to have to move out, just sneak some bromo-dragonfly (not enough to kill her, just to freak her the fuck out) in her food or something, but make sure nobody can prove you did it, otherwise you'd be facing a long-term prison sentence.

Please excuse my harsh language, but this thing just pissed me off... some people are such jerks.

A landlord is never your friend. They may act as if they are, but they are not to be trusted as they will always act to protect what is theirs. It is strictly a business relationship, so you need to protect yourself by reading your lease carefully.

I was referring to what the OP quoted earlier; she had started out feeling as if she was friends with everyone)...

My God, you were bitten by a dog? That means that you could actually have rabies of some sort?

Legal help is a good idea that I might not have thought of if in a similar situation, before feeding the owner to the dog...

I just wouldn't have taken someone's food out to their dog, as it seems an oddly personal thing to do, like "oh, be a dear and feed my servants, would you?" I'd have asked why. But you've likely got some sort of chance at getting some money and therefore treatment before you need to be quarantined for foaming at the mouth. I don't really understand law (can't be that complicated), especially being British, but I imagine you've a potential tort on your hands; check whether the place (state or whatever) in which you live has dog bite liability laws or even a dog bite statute, in which case I'm sure you'll be able to prove, especially without prior knowledge regarding the status of the dog...

You didn't have a clue about the animal, did you? It was unfair of them to impose such a burden upon you, so please get it rectified and for goodness' sake, please don't die in the meantime of a gangrenous leg!

It--law--does seem a lot like arguing in fancy dress, which sounds delightfully fun.

Of course, research this and then research which antibiotics are best for which infections, or simply buy antibiotics illegally and take them: you do need medical care and, really, wounds need to be cleaned and washed and closed and healed. There're likely free clinics or other places that could help you: who takes care of the gangsters who've been shot in your area, and what about a vet..? It's just a thought, which is all I can offer, and I sincerely hope that you get well soon.

As a quick aside, I could swear that the number of your number children is different from when we last spoke. I want to offer you money but can't come up with a tactful means to do so (it's very early right now)...

I wish I had something useful here to add, but everyone here pretty much said it, and there is nothing wrong with questioning a lawyer first to make sure that you have any valid arguements coming if they were to land there. I think the OP did exactly what she should have. I would have consulted an attorney as well given the circumstances. Pet owners need to stop placing the blame on other peope and start taking the responsibility for their pets actions. It's a shame that this has and is going the way it is, but OP you need to get yourself taken care of first and foremost and get the proper medical care. A dog bite is usually a puncture wound which are the worst kind for infections. Right now, get that taken care of and worry about the small claims court later if you need to go there, and as far as seeking advise from you lawyer that's a good thing to do so you know your rights going in, but get the bites taken care of and get well, then worry about the rest. Good luck to you!!!

I think it's pretty clear that it is the dog owner's responsibility to pay the medical bills associated with the bite. I don't know what country you're in, but most locations have specific laws regarding the quarantine of an unvaccinated dog (specifically for rabies) after a person has been bitten. I would contact your local animal control department for the specifics.

^^ Thats how it is in the US, thats for sure, seen it done, not to me, but to others.

Theres not much else you could do, you were doing her a favor and her dog bit you. Why should you have to pay for that? I understand you dont want to be the guy who sues, and people suing each other is out of hand in the US, but this is a legit thing to bring to a court of law IMO, especially since the dog didnt have its shots (pretty sure that is illegal, might not be in SC no offense lol). I wouldnt feel bad about suing because if your neighbor had any shred of decency they would have their insurance cover it without you bringing them to court. Best of luck with everything though that is a sticky situation

^^ or at the very least they should have offered to pay for any medical bills you incurred from this event. That would have been the proper way for them to have handled this. I know that if this was something my dog did, I would have done anything to make sure you were taken care of. She is probably worried that if its reported they will quarantine then dog since it doesn't have it's shots so it's probably not registered which would mean that animal control will cease the dog pending the out come of blood tests and all and if the dog isnt registered and no shots, it's likely she would receive a fine. It's quite obvious she cares more about her dogs then your well being, so don't you feel bad for anything you have to do to make sure that you are ok and your bills are taken care of, even if it means she loses the dog. I feel bad for the dog in this situation because of the owners neglect. Pisses me off how pet owners can be so neglectful! Everyone suffers including the dog. Way not cool. Do what you have to! They won't get any sympathy from anyone here, but you sure will :)

Okay. I have gone ahead and went along with what my attorney said. We are sueing their homeowners. I am on my third round of antibotics, and my leg is still really bad. I am going to a surgeon on the 30th. My attorney got a doctor to put my bills on a tab from the law suit. My neighbor has already contacted my attorney with her insurance information. So it is working out legally.
Unfortunely, I am going to have to move. I refuse to lose my dog Allie. She has been through to much and she deserves to live with me and my girls. My dog has never bitten anyone ever.
I am just going to lay low with everyone in my neighborhood and then I will use my tax money and some of my suit money to put down on another place for us to live. Stay in the same school zone so the girls will not have to change schools.
I haven't contacted my neighbors at all. They have put up a no tresspass signs on the sides of our properties. I mean really, lmao. I am just trying to maintain my dignity because it was really a stupid thing to do. Feed someone elses dog. I guess I am a sucker because I love animals, and I figure I am to giving when it comes to friends. I can't give a friend much but if I can I will try and help. I know I learned my lesson on the feeding someone elses dog situation.
My youngest turned 8 on the 19th, and we had her party today because of my leg and we did it at the park with my family and her friends from school. When I got home I started to feel pain in my leg and I looked down and it was bleeding really bad. Apparently the top tear busted open from the activity.
So itstead of feeling sorry for myself or frecking out. I redressed my leg, and took a pain pill, and decided to update in here. I am really just annoyed that this happened. I tend to get myself in some stupid situations. I hate being gullible. I really do try and use hindsight. Most of the time I do, but no ones perfect, but damn, I wished it wouldn't been so hard sometimes. To many things have happened to me and my family to last us a lifetime. So a small break would be appricated at this point. I guess thats were my anger comes in. I would have thought my neighbor would have cared more about that what happened and would have wanted me to get medical attention. Or hell, check on me, call, something. I am sure if it were my dog Allie that bite her she would feel the same way.
Anyway, I know I will get through this. Just wanted to check in and thank everyone for their opinions. You've helped me a lot. Sorry it took me so long to check in but I have been really crazy. I mostly wanted to soak everything in, still am tbh.

I miss you lol. xxx I am okay money wise. Its tight but our ends are meeting lol. I miss talking to you on msn though. I am down so much until my leg heals. I would love to talk with you again soon. I love you to pieces. Good friend indeed.

This is what my leg looked like before the infection set in. I will post a more recent one later. I am feeling kinda sick to my stomache from the pain meds.

You didn't do anything wrong. Don't talk to these people. Your landlord is related to the owner of the dog who bit you, right? There's a reason to move, she will just make your life living hell. After a dog bites someone the owner is required to put up "Beware of Dog" signage in most places. Limit your activity so that the bite wounds can heal.

^ Thanks Missykins. I am going to do just that. Kinda hard with three kids, and I am a single parent at that. So it gets intense at times. Hopefully it will go better after I see this surgeon. Some nerves were severed in the teeth punctures. So they are going to tell me my options then I assume. So maybe I can get some releif from worrying. I hate moving too. Good lord, I hate moving, I guess we can make things into whatever though. I can be depressed or I can just fix it and move on. I intend on moving on as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone replying and showing support in my situation. <3

I'll message you privately, but I haven't been a good friend to you, I've been a horrible person: that's what I typically am.
I'm amazed at certain things, especially how being so cynical led to all sorts of adventures...

I want you to be okay: so much bad stuff happens in your life, I swear, I'd bring you all of my bad luck and I don't want that.
Get well; get rest; get your eldest to take good care of the younger ones for a while and rest yourself.
