This may be a bit off topic, but I just wanted to say that the idea of involuntary treatment sounds like a good idea to me, as an American.

Assuming that involuntary treatment is being "prescribed" in lieu of serious legal penalty, I think the US would benefit highly from it. Being labeled a drug felon in this country basically ruins your life.

The majority of the addicts who need treatment the most in this country cannot get it because it costs thousands of dollars, and requires insurance which many don't have. So, they end up being arrested and then detoxing in jail after they are thrown in there without much thought.

One of the worst tragedies of the drug problem in the US is the lack of socialized healthcare, lack of accessibility to treatment, which always ends up with people being labeled felons, which permanently ruins your life prospects forever.

I know the idea of involuntary treatment is controversial, and useless for those who don't want it, but it's much better than jail.

I say don't lock em for drug use or possession but if they commit other crimes then lock em. None of this catch and release for dangerous or sexual predredators, and violent and destructive bastasrds too.
 
^They are [planning on] locking up chronic overdosers which is a recipe for PTSD and death, not recovery. Not sure if they even have enough beds for those who want recovery either.

People with brain damage from overdosing will be more prone to fatal relapse overdose than people without brain damage due to impulsivity ect.

The research evidence (systematic reviews conducted in 2016 and 2023) is also clear that forced abstinence is not only ineffective, it also increases risk of overdose or death. This occurs primarily by temporarily reducing a person's tolerance to drugs and making them more susceptible to overdose if they resume use.

Where the hell is Canada gonna get the money to treat these people. Simple, kill em off by allowing fent and traq dope to wipe out the junkies. Same as America, but the Canadian government is trying to kill off people with assisted suicide, for depression. Sick evil bastards.
Considering what it costs to treat junkies, the government has decided to kill off people who are a financial burden.
The forcing people in rehab will fail, but at least the politicians can act like they care.
There is not enough beds and the hugh cost of treating opiod addicts, with a 10% success rate or less and all those trips to rehab, sober living, counseling and other treatments are too expensive.
I have read about the high taxes and all the problems Canada is having, cost of living, people dying to get treatment for cancer, and many Canadians leaving for other countries, puts Canada in a bad position.
So kill the junkies, save money. The forced rehab will not work at all, except possibly people who want to get clean. Most don't who are addicts and will not quit and/ or will relapse.

In all likelihood you're reading propaganda spun by the elites who want private systems so they can become even richer, and/or opinion pieces from people who have no idea what it's like to not live with socialized healthcare.

If you actually get genuine opinions from real people (instead of propaganda mass media stories), they always express shock and horror at the American healthcare system.
 
I was on Medicaid for years and treated better than the people in Canada and the UK. Not elite. Bs from A commie
 
No it ain't. Doctors don't have to take you. Also dental coverage and other stuff sucks. I had no assets. I got off it when my net worth exceeded $2,000. Most doctors will not take Medicaid patients, but hospitals are stuck and so is almost everyone on socialized medicine. Medicaid is supposed to be temporary and it was.
 
So the difference is that doctors don't have to take you and medicaid's dental coverage sucks? Lovely. My favorite thing is having to hunt for in-network doctors (remember, this isn't really a medicaid limitation) and having dental coverage be fucking trash (oh wait it's worse now that I have semi-real income fuck fuck fuck).

Though, last time I checked, commie Canada doesn't have universal dental care. Maybe you'd like those maple leaves over there more than you thought!
 
Also, the only specialists who will accept Medicaid are more like Special Ed dotors. They are usually the ones who graduated from a shitty medical school at the bottom of their class and barely made it through residency, and also went through a lousy specialist residency.

Source this please. Not meaning to be confrontational, but it you could find a supporting document for the majority of medicaid accepting doctors being sub-par, it would help your point.

Alberta is paying a lot themselves, and they build a lot of beds cheap. I just found out how many and its shocking. ~10 times as many beds as BC and BC spends lots.
I don't know how much alberta spends on these beds yet.
