How to use Fentanyl Test Strips

If you're sharing this with someone new to using the strips, keep in mind that we now know it's really important to dilute with enough water. Many substances cause false positives or confusing results when in concentrations over 1mg/mL, which "water in a baggy" can easily exceed.
 
It's my understanding that the potency of some fentanyl analogues means that ELISA techniques are employed.

In essence an antibody reacts with the fentanyl analogue to produce a clear result.

I've read they detect most analogues but now carfentanil is turning up as an active cut within fentanyl samples, things just got more dangerous.

I'm old enough to remember HR advice being to 'taste' the stuff by imbibing a tiny amount to have some idea of it's potency. Yes, it used to be that crude. But the thing is, it's still the case that while you can always take more, you can't retrospectively take less.
 
Can this be done with an RC powder such as Bromazolam? Could I mix a bit of it with water and test? Would making a solution (with PG) first, then testing, be more effective? Would appreciate anyone with experience or insight. Thanks

Most if not all benzodiazepines are at least slightly soluble in water. I know 1 gram of diazepam will dissolve in 1l of hot water. It takes a good deal of shaking but it does work.

Propylene glycol is generally chosen as benzos are much more soluble in it - but that's only important if someone intends to IV the stuff.

Interesting. I’ve only heard of volumetric dosing an RC such as Bromazolam by mixing it with PG to be administered orally. Learn something new every day. Do you know if a test strip would be effective once in a solution since I’ve recently discovered it’s insoluble in water?

Edit: it turns out bromazolam powder+water doesn’t mix well
 
Sorry, can't help you on that. Bromazolam caused a problem? Odd. A gram of Pyrazolam, pynazolam and pyeyzolam as well as diazepam WOULD all dissolve in 1l of water. It took 10 minutes of shaking but it worked.

Ah well thanks anyway. I’m hoping someone on here can give me some insight regarding effectiveness of fentanyl strips on bromazolam solutions. I’d rather be safe than sorry. Too many scary combinations out there and I don’t feel like playing Russian roulette
 
You would need to dissolve the benzo or benzo solution in water to the best of your ability. You need to ensure that the glycol concentration is under 5%, ideally under 1%, therefore choose your amount of water based on that.
If no glycol is present, aim for a concentration of 1mg/mL.
Any fentanyl that is present would dissolve, even if the benzo does not.

Because low doses of benzos are typically consumed (1mg of bromazolam for example), the contamination rate of the powder would need to be around 10% for fentanyl to present a major threat. This is a very high level of contamination and would be VERY easy to detect with FTIR, fentanyl test strips or reagent testing.
