Okay I am Physically Dependent on Hydromorphone and I just got a prescription for Lorazepam to help me sleep at night. Now I figured best way to do this would be take my last Hydromorphone dose about 2 hours before bed just enough to prevent Withdrawal Symptoms. 2 Hours should be enough time to let most of it wear off and leave just the Lorazepam in my System allowing it to help me sleep and wake up nice and safely lol.

Is there any further advice someone would like to add and or something I am over-looking and or missing here?

I think it's a good thing you're being careful. This attitude will only promote positive results and help prevent mistakes.

I was taking 3mg IV dilaudid every 3 hours and 2mg of IV lorazepam in the hospital every 8 hours. even when the doses crossed each other and they were both due to be administered at the same time, the nurses didnt have much problem giving them both to me at once :)

but then again i was monitored. im now prescribed 4mg of oral Ativan every 6 hours if needed. I usually take it every 8 hours and also take my prescribed 30mg of oxycodone IR every 4hrs all while constantly on 175mcg of duragesic fentanyl.

i built my way up to this tolerance, keep my doses constant and am always trying to live my life/stay social rather than staying knocked-out/zombie indoors. talk to your doctor, but i think you'll be fine. remain cautious always

I think a good general (and obvious) rule when mixing CNS depressants is to simply take (considerably) less of each than you would on their own. How much lorazepam are you prescribed? If it's a starting/very low dose you'll be fine (so long as you don't take more!), but if it's more substantial you might want to reduce your hydromorphone dosage a bit as well.

the weird thing is some people can mix the same amount of opiates and benzos for many days/months and then just one time out of nowhere, they don't wake up, despite having a tolerance for both and not overdoing it. I get too paranoid, last time i was plugging dilaudid, like 8-12mg/day without a huge opie tolerance while being dependent on etizolam and i'd just fight the nods so hard because of that paranoia, just ruins the whole high for me.

i guess the safest option is to take as small of a dose of each as possible, of course that's no fun but too many people die from this combo, even on BL.

EXCELLENT idea for a thread.

I'm physically addicted to Oxycodone/OxyContin and have Alprazolam (Xanax) but I' paranoid about ODing.

You should be paranoid. You'd be amazed at what low-dose alprazolam can do if you mix it with high MG opiate dosages. I've overdosed after taking 100mg methadone (from a clinic, stable at this dose daily for 6+ months) and only taking 1.5 mg xanax.

I normally take 80mg Oxycodone at a time. I haven't tried my alprazolam yet but I got the 0.5mg ones and I plan to take half of that (so 0.25mg) with only 20mg Oxy.

I think it's best to start off on the absolute lowest dose of benzo and take half of your usual opiate dose AT THE VERY MOST.
Add a small amount (say 10mg oxy or 20mg morphine - depending on your tolerance of course) once an hour until you get the desired effect.
I think alprazolam would be the best benzo because it's very fast-acting so reaches peak blood plasma fairly quickly, but it doesn't last long so you couldn't OD by taking your regular opiate dose a couple of days later like you could with Diazepam, with it's 100-hour half-life.

while it's really dumb to mix opiates and benzos i gotta say i love it. i'll take my 90mg of methadone in the morning and later on in the day take a 2mg xanax and its a really great high. the other day i took a 0.5mg klonopin like 30 minutes before i dosed my 'done and that was great too. it wasnt too much so i wasnt nodding out but i felt nice pretty much all day.

That's exactly what I'm looking for and why I'm going to try adding Xanax (0.25mg to start with, for safety reasons and because I have no benzo toolerance) to my Oxy.
Plus, I've suffered severe anxiety my whole life. Opiates help a lot but even they don't totally stop it like Xanax should.

watch out for polydrug addiction; that's exactly how it starts out for almost everyone. After a while you'll feel lazy and tired most of the time and then add a stimulant to the mix, not a great road to go down. The opiate high is as good as it gets, benzos mostly ruin it, IMO of course. Not to mention kicking opiates and benzos at the same time is fucking horrible.

Ive been on Suboxone for about 4 months now and tonight was the first time I've tried taking Xanax while on Suboxone. I dosed about 3mg Suboxone around 1pm, then another 2mg around 8:45pm. At 10pm i took 1mg Xanax and i must say the high is very relaxing while not feeling too sedated or not any CNS depression. As long as you keep your doses low and you have a decent tolerance to at least one of them you should be fine

I actually haven't changed my opiate dose like most people do, but I have a high opiate tolerance.
The first two days I took 0.25mg Alprazolam (Xanax) one a day.
The second two days I took 0.25mg three times a day.
I am now on day 8 and have been taking a steady amount of 0.5mg 3 times daily which I do not plan to change as it seems to be the right dose for me.

Note: while a small part of my reason for taking Xanax is to potentiate my opiates, the main reason is because I suffer from severe - sometimes crippling - anxiety. So I am taking Xanax for it's intended reason. I do not abuse it. For me 0.5mg three times a day is working excellently as the therapeutic dose.

xanax & any opiate is my favorite buzz in the world but yes, dangerous. i od'd last year from bupe & xanax, woke up 3 days later on a breathing machine and had no clue where i was/how i got there. scary shit, so be careful. i was lucky that the person i was with knew cpr and was there when i stopped breathing. unfortunately not everyone is that lucky. you sound like you have the right idea though so just keep being cautious, being scared is a good thing!

I think Done and Xanax have a certain interaction that causes this. I'm not sure it's enzyme related or just the potentcy of alprazolam but a lot of people do use this to recreate a heroin like feeling.

I tried Xanax and Oxycodone last night and it was the most amazing, euphoric high I have ever had.

I was extremely careful. I started off taking 1/4 my usual opiate dose with only 0.25mg xanax and gradually added to it.

Definitely something I'll be doing quite often. Especially since I am prescribed both of them (oxy for severe chronic pain, xanax for anxiety/panic attacks and as a mild muscle relaxant).

Thomas 29, you will be fine. You have a plan and are aware that there are risks.

No one has mentioned alcohol and many forget to and that it is simply another drug. You should avoid alcohol, especially with this poly drug combination. Alcohol added to the mix can cause the drugs to hit a lot harder, lead to confusion, blackouts, accidentally taking more meds, or drinking way too much, and in worst case, respiratory failure.

Sure there are people who do drink on these meds. The smarter ones limit their drinks to just a few. The stories in the paper about these kids who took an opiate and a benzo at a party and died hours later usually don't report that the kid was smashed on booze also because they don't realize it was a contributing factor. People think of booze as harmless, but when combined along with opiates and benzos it is a major factor.
