good question.
So guys, my friend owns a Deep/Tech/Progressive House label and asked me to do A&R. I've figured out most of it but HOW DO I SELL IT? Help me out gurus.

Or sell the fact that you are an A & R rep? I think I took the OP literally. Probably go out every night and look like someone who does exactly that.

I thought A & R didn't really exist for electronic music but I guess I'm wrong.

Its funny, you basically become whats known in band jargon as the "scenester." That person who basically all they do is go out and listen to live music.

But yeah like Alasdairm said its the old school way of getting talent for a record label, and making sure they put out stuff that will sell and by the sounds of it having a good commercial live show.

Which in my mind doesn't really apply to a small House label. All anybody does is have their tracks available for digital distribution and "maybe" put out a few vinyl releases. There's no real talent management. And probably no real creative control for a track unless you are paying someone to make tracks. Anyways, my revised 2 cents.

a&r (artistes and repertoire) is traditionally responsible for discovering and developing acts for the label - up to the point the music/cd/whatever is released. the traditional a&r function consumes, it does not supply (externally). which begs the question - what are you going to be selling?
