how to delete social media for good

^Ya. I could understand people not wanting to have it.

I was just pointing out that deactivating is more avoiding a conflict.

Just pointing out that the people who show on your wall profile is a marketing gimmick.

There are however many locations that show followers and subscribers for example.
 
Just like anything, it can be good for some and not others. I dont think its so much that social media is bad but how society tells us where we are supposed to be a specific times in our lives. By this age you should be here and by this age you should have aquired this. Blah blah. People follow this shit like a to do list and its not a guarantee to make you happy. That only comes from within. So you have that along with seeing some dbag you knew in high school getting married, job etc thinking you should be more progressed in your life. Fuck em, they might be completely miserable behind that 2 kid, minivan, mortgage smile and who knows, maybe their jealous of your life.
 
When life is going really well I'm almost never on facebook, or the computer in general (except for my BL duties of course ;)).

I am concerned about the privacy violations happening on it though, which means I take most important conversations off-site usually.

The second image is the screen you refresh. You'll notice people you'd expect being there after each refresh of the screen. :)

holy shit i think this is legit!!! wow. 1 of them is a female who i more than expected to find there, besides the fact i hadn't spoken to her in over a month...

[edit: i hit refresh several times, and get different ppl... it's not implausible that these ppl were hitting my profile the most, but it's hard to say that there isn't an algorithm that thinks i wanted to see them... that would be legit as far as i can tell, i mean these ppl are ppl i check on on occasion, and i don't fbook too often... can you elaborate on how you know that these profiles had visited me, and that it isn't just a mechanism to show me the ppl i'm most interested in? plz believe that i wanna believe you're right, but 1 of the ppl that was shown on that screen, well, i just cannot imagine they'd have been in the 10 most frequent/recent visitors to my profile... i do wanna believe this is a legit path but i'm quite skeptical, so yeah plz tell me how you've verified this, are you just trusting some blog post or is this kinda 'verified'?
 
hhmm. The algorithm of facebook is complex. But, it is very straightforward who has been in your inbox in some way. Does that make sense taking out a huge number of variables by if there are pm's?

some of them are people you look at, but only in a reciperocative way.

lets just be discreet and say women who test this together/ chicks who love dogs all day on E showed me this in a roundabout way.

Its defintely the case.

As far as the other responses, a tom green reference is so needed here. lol.
 
glad i'm not alone. i get so many freagin emails from that site every day i feel like chucking it, but then i feel guilty about deleting account as i have not just friends, but family members on fb. it takes time out of my day. :\

ok, i'm gonna need something in the way of explanations, cuz the more i refresh that, the more i suspect it's showing me who *I* am interested in, not who had been checking my profile...
honestly i'd be willing to test this (like, legit test it from phony accounts, cuz i think it's a very interesting proposal, but that'd be a bitch for me and i gotta have something to go on before wasting that time)

plz lemme know why i should believe that the ppl shown are ppl who've recently visited my account, and not just ppl i'm interested in. :)

goddamnit, really? why would you propose that was legit then?! you even got specific about it, then you say it's bs? at least you came clean b4 i wasted more time lol! yeah it certainly isn't showing random friends when i hit that screen, but to say it's showing ppl who hit my screen requires more than a chick who's rolling and loves dogs lol (tho i'd love to chill w/ her.. just sayin')

[for instance, on my 3rd refresh, i got my cousin, who fucking hates me... the only reason i even spoke to them recently was me asking for tech help, and they gave me a 1 sentence answer... i cannot fathom they have checked my profile once, ever, but there they were- certainly that was a function of the fact i'd pm'd them and, afterwards, i spent over 10min checking pictures (they're doing great, fwiw!), but yeah from this spot it's certainly something showing ppl *i* like, not ppl who sought out my profile page. show something legit otherwise you were just talking shit and repeating bunk info - no harm, no foul, i've done it myself, but be real about it!]
 
Lol. I didnt mean to send this off-topic so much. If OP is trying to delete it please ignore the tangent.

But the truth is noone puts info on facebook they dont want people to see.

Saying anything is stalking without joking is like screaming, rolling on the ground at an intersection and wondering why you draw a crowd.

Google + is a lot stupider than facebook though. Ive heard of people having phone pics automatically updated up there.

It being connected to youtube, email, searches, etc is just way too much of a privacy issue.
 
Douglas Rushkoff talks a lot about detrimental effects of social media. The only thing that creeps me out about facebook though, and Google, is how they use your and your friends information to figure out everything about you so that they know what ads to place in front of your face. Not that the people themselves know, but the computers they use. They use algorithms to figure out everything from what your favorite brands are all the way to if what some kid is saying to his friends indicates that he may be gay in 5 years so that they can figure out how to make a buck off each individuals personal life.
They're basically an advertising business, they're not there to help you make friends. So they don't really care if using 'social media' may make you more antisocial.

on several occasions this has happened. even when i've been having a convo with someone in person and fb is open, i'll see an ad about 'subway' when that's just what we were talking about. i know it sounds crazy, i agree, it does. but it's happened more than twice for me. could be a coincidence but i highly, highly doubt it.

:D Can you spell 'COOKIES'? :D Unless you take steps to make sure what you do is hidden, many sites WILL track your data, including what PC and OS you use.Many of them track which website you came to them FROM as well as which you GO TO.

It's Caveat Emptor, writ large across the world... Buyer Beware. Not sure what 'User is in Latin but it applies. If you use stuff and can't be bothered finding out the details, you should expect people who DO find out the details will try to capitalise on your ignorance of reality.

What do they need cookies for? They scan your private messages in real time to serve ads. OF course facebook denies they still do this for advertising and say they only do it for virus scanning. I'll let you decide whether or not you believe them.

What I find hilarious about all of this is that millions of people continually use the site, without knowing where the data goes, who has access to to it, what it's used for...

I read an article a few weeks ago about how restaurants are now researching customers facebooks when they make reservations, in order to know their personalities and likes/dislikes etc before they come and eat. Fucking creepy.

I wouldn't be too sure... Cookies are evolving rapidly, so much so AV programs now specifically look for malicious cookies.

I think Social Media and the Internet in general is a fucking great tool! It really annoys me though how some people use this great opportunity to do bullshit. (FB drama between highschoolers, for example)
