well im new to bluelight so dont know which forum to put this in, but thought id let people know how to delete facebook for good. they make it to where if u deactivate a account, you can log back in at any time. so i changed my password to a 20 character password with different numbers and letters and changed it, then ripped up the piece of paper i wrote the password on making it impossible to log back in with out making another account which im good on. i think social media is fucked in that you compare your life to other peoples lives all the time. fuck social media its not good for people in my opinion. well thats all fellow bluelighters

I've never use facebook so i'm not sure if this feature is available but don't they just have a "forgot your password" tool like every other website in this day and age? I would assume the most popular website on the internet would not have overlooked that.

i have a old email that was never active so no there will not be a forget password way to log back in. i wasnt sure where to post this but i just felt like letting people know how to delete faceb

Rather than hate on a social media platform, why don't you concentrate changing your life in a positive way that heals your insecurities?

There is no need to hate other people because of either shame or jealousy. No one is judging what you post unless it is retarded hateful points of view with no substance. If you are happy with your life perhaps you should simply prune your friends list to reflect only those who " get it"

yeah be selective of your "friends". simple.

if you can't moderate your own usage, that doesn't mean everyone has the same problem. i use fb daily and am fine with it.

I recall reading an article that said Facebook can make people depressed because most show only their good thoughts, experiences, etc. Very few post the little grumbles. They rarely post mediocrity. I don't know. Maybe susceptible people get the impression that everyone else's lives are always awesome while they deal with their own normal lives.

I admit I had it for awhile, then deactivated because I got sick, and did succomb to this. I knew others weren't failures like I was. Were happy. Were married. Were healthy. It seems out of my peer group- where I used to have good positioning, I just didn't flourish. This is to due with factors that were out of my control. Now I forgive myself. Now I'm decently 'successful'/less insecure with myself. Still disabled in ways- but I forgive myself for that. I took 3 years away, and now mostly enjoy fb... Happy exes and procreating friends, and all.

Ah yes... I guess you're right.

I think I used the wrong word.

If you deactivate your account and don't log back in for two months it will be deleted unless they have changed it, this is how i deleted mine in 2010.

There's nothing inherently wrong with social media, it can be a great tool and your experience depends heavily on YOU. I 'like' pages that are interesting to me such as TEDTalk, IFuckingLoveScience and travel pages; so my news feed mostly consists of updates on these topics.. you can tailor it to suit your interests which i find WAY better then reading a conventional newspaper or news website.

I think people focus too much on the social aspect of Facebook and become caught up with the drama between friends and associates, delete the people that bother you and keep those who don't. I do a lot of travel internationally so i have friends where the easiest means of keeping in contact is through social media..

Why get angry over something you have complete control over?

Mine was deactivated since the beginning of 2011 and I just logged back on.

im not hating on social media and was just telling people how i deleted mine. i just felt like i compared my life to others post all the time and it was negative for me so i deleted it. i also spent to much time on which i didnt feel it was productive for me. i have no problem with other people using social media, so dont think im hating on people that use social media. just for me personally i felt like it needed to go

You have to request FB permanently delete your account.. im not sure how you would do this with no access to your account. There is information on how to request this and a google search would probably provide this.

Fuck facebook

Whats interesting is the people who get refreshed on the deactivate screen are the most current people who have been on your profile.

I use it a lot because everyone ive known does.

I actually wrote a philosophy paper on the breakdown of human interaction through facebook earlier in college.

The irony. Lol.

On facebook, choose >settings > security > deactivate your account.

5 people show up who will "miss you."

Refresh this screen several times.

The ones that repeat are people who go on your profile.

wow. very much glad that I've been good resisting checking my ex's account like i used to! (not that I'd expect her to know of this, lol but you think you're doing something anonymous! gah)
does doing this actually de-activate? or it's the screen right when you're about to 'ok' it, that you keep refreshing? (guess I'll just go try it myself to find out ;) )

-Two samples just from google. It shows up as a choice screen to explain why you did it. Typically people choose "this is temporary I'll be back."
--You actually have to type in a password and choose one of the multiple choice.
---It never permanently deletes.
-----Once you log back in, it logs you back in with no changes, or friend deletes etc.

The second image is the screen you refresh. You'll notice people you'd expect being there after each refresh of the screen. :)
