How to deal with a possibly flagged medical chart? How does it work?

I've searched and read a couple threads but I need a bit more specific information. (And no, I don't plan on pulling something over on my doctors, so this thread isn't breaking any rules)

I live in the U.S., and after I went to the E.R. (for what ended up being a panic attack) I admitted to the E.R. staff that I did heroin. This information ended up getting sent to my doctor (whom is a pediatrician.. yeah, laugh all you want, I still see my pediatrician!).

I ended having to schedule an appointment with her before I could get my Adderall script refilled, so she could ask me about it. Out of pure nervousness, I told her the heroin was a one-time thing, and she said "alright, I guess I believe you! Just lemme drug test you to be sure, and you can pick up your script tomorrow!" Now. Obviously... I failed the drug test.

In your opinion, do you think this is cause for her to flag my medical chart as a drug user? I'm terrified that my medical chart is ruined now.

I'm scared that even if I get clean off dope (which I'm actually trying to do right now), and I go back to her and apologize for lying and test clean, do you think she'd un-flag it? Is that even possible?

And if I go to a new doctor, will he be able to look it up and see that my chart is flagged? I'm not going to lie, I plan on asking a new doctor for my Adderall prescription back(but don't get confused- this is NOT a thread on *how* to get it back, I know that's against the rules). Do you think he'd give it to me without asking or looking at my chart, if I just tell him that I was on it before? (This goes for any med, really, not just Adderall)

I just want to know how this whole "flagged chart" thing works, and if I ever have a chance of getting my Adderall script back (once again, this is NOT a thread on trying to screw over my doctors).

Should I go to my last doctor, the pediatrician, and apologize to her first? Or should I just go to a new doctor.
If I go to my pediatrician, I'll tell her straight up that I'm clean, I want my script back, she can piss test me, AND I'll tell her that I don't want my chart flagged. She's known me since I was a baby, so it might be helpful.

What do you guys think?

Any helpful advice is appreciated. Please no mean/hurtful comments... I get my feelings hurt easily:P

Your information is protected under HIPAA. Google it. There is a lot you can do if you know the privacy laws.

If you go see a doctor not associated in any way with the one who has your chart or with the hospital that has your chart then you should be good. Why did you take a drug test you knewe you where going to fail?

I've had this same question...

I was strung out on opiates for a few years and my family doctor is aware.

I also went to rehab back in 2009 so clearly my insurance company is aware, which is my primary concern.

If I get new insurance will the old company give the new one my records? Can my doctors acess these records?

I'm a very unassuming about my past so I would probably only tell a doc if they were prescribing me opioids or I was going into surgery. The last thing I need is to be labels a drug seeker : /

every time i see a new doc they never ask for my records (dumb idiots) so I never have this problem. thankfully i gave up on doctors and now trust in alternative medicine for all my needs. fuck the FDA

They can't look up your chart from another doctor unless you given them written consent. But I would assume he would need your record to verify you really used to be on adderal. This is a tough question.
I've learned to give up info only when necessary pertaining to drug use. Doctors can be very judgmental sometimes.

I wouldn't worry about it OP. If anything your Dr. might end up putting you on a prodrug such as vyvanse.

Edit: You put yourself in the biggest part of the problem. You lied about using only once. You could have at least said it was an infrequent thing and that you have only used it a handful of times.

Don't lie. It usually makes things worse.

Another Edit: I personally find it suspicious that you abuse heroin, yet rely on your dexamphetamine. That seems far beyond counter productive. I'm nobody to judge. But could you please inform me the purpose of being Rx'd dexamphetamine if you use heroin daily?
