I took 80mg last night over 4hrs & didn't really get a high or even feel drowsy really & I don't have a benzo tolerance. To fall asleep I had to take 50mg of trazadone on top of it. Ive heard of 20mg making people black out. How potent is it compared to Valium or xanax? I heard it's like benzos but with some visual effects, I just saw double when I was watching TV nothing interesting. Benzos don't effect me much anyway I'm a recovering heroin addict.

There related, but I don't know if I would compare them...Ambien just kinda knocks you out, not really helping with anxiety. Only had it one time, think I took like 30mg(wanted to see what the visuals people were talking about) which what were you described, things just looking closer than they are, seeing tripple..pretty cool then ya pass out.

If you can stay awake it does have anxiolytic properties but not quite as strong as xanax.

I used to get amazing visuals but found the magic to disappear quickly. Ill never forget the first time I ever took an ambien ( only 10 mg). I was reading bluelight then the next thing I know the words were falling right off the screen and sitting in my lap like a pool of water, along with many other awesome things happening. It was pretty amazing, this description doesnt do it justice.

First of all valium is a VERY long acting benzo and ambien is a short acting z drug kinda similar but its like comparing apples to oranges man. IMHO z drugs are fucking nasty. You cant really compare the 2. The closest you can get would be one of the hypnotic benzos and there still pretty different

^^ Valium is actually also short acting long half life doesn't always equal long duration of effects ..

I wouldn't call valium short acting man. Yes it does, long half life equals longer effects. Slower your body metabolizes it the longer its effects last for. Lemme ask you this, how many ppl do you know that's are prescribed to take valium 3-4 times a day like with Xanax and the other short acting benzos? not very many dude.

Yes it comes on decently fast but lasts a very long time compared to say Xanax or temazepam http://www.vhpharmsci.com/vhformulary/tools/benzodiazepines-comparison.htm Right there buddy. I thought this was common knowledge

EDIT Why do think the short acting benzos are scripted for sleep, so ppl don't wake up all groggy in the morning. So in your theory Xanax could last longer than valium if half life has nothing to do with duration. C'mon man your theory is a crock of shit. Valium and kpins are 2 of the longest lasting benzos. What makes you think half life has nothing to do with duration, it pretty much has everything to do with duration. I think you need to do some research dude.

Valium is most definitely short acting similar duration to Ativan and Xanax. Half life is not a measurement of how long the drugs effects last just how long it takes to get eliminate the drug from your body . Valium stays longer in your system because it gets absorbed into fat . So it quickly gets absorbed into fat from the blood stream hence the long half life / short duration

in the UK we have zolpidem (Ambien) and diazepam (Valium)

i'd say zolpidem was pretty mild, even its big brother (zopiclone) didn't really do shit to me. had a massive diaz addiction though. z-drugs don't make me feel spacey in the morning though.

My source is blue light I read that here multiple times by people who have good reputations here and no their pharmacology. I wish I could find the thread to show you but you really should just know anyway if you've ever taken valium you would know that only last like five hours and comes on quick. I don't appreciate you insulting me and also spreading misinformation.

Ambien is supposed to be for sleep but it never has helped me sleep… I think the hypnotic part keeps me awake and overrides the sedative effects it's supposed to have. But that's just me. It shares some mechanisms of Benzos but is not in the same family at all…

This is definitely correct, the actual duration of diazepam's effects are quite short, comparable to the shorter acting benzodiazepines. Half-life does not equate to duration of physical effects. IME diazepam comes on in about 20-30 minutes and any appreciable ''buzz'' or whatever you would like to call it is more than gone by the 6th hour, usually an hour or two before that actually.

Dont get cocky, its alright to be misinformed as long as you keep an open mind and in this case you are wrong.
There are some truth to what you´re saying, but the half-life of any given drug in relation to its duration is only half the story.
I cant explain that part as I dont know enough on the subject in order to do so, but I´ll give you an example of a drug there it is clear as daylight that half-life is not the whole story.

Phenibut has a half-life of about 5 hours, yet the duration is easily 24+ hours.

EDIT: OP, Zolpidem is a pretty potent drug but its a wierd one to.
Not only does it not work very well for a lot of people but for those it does work for, it can produce some pretty insane effects.
If 80 mg doesn´t get you fucked up when you might as well stay away as you are clearly one of those people who it doesn´t work for.

Zolpidem hs a very short half life, and only works on the hypnotic GABA sub receptor, unlike valium or xanax which acts on all sub receptors to a certain extent, and have far more rec. value, Zolpidem works if you are a bit tired, you get in bed, take the zolpidem, and close your eyes and you should dose off, good for people who don't wake up during the night....

As for tripping on zolpidem i've never done it, it doesn't sound very fun, and many people have had accidents on high dose zolpidem....

The Z drugs never did anything to me besides the first time I ever did zopidem. My benzo tolerance gets in its way.

For the record, 10mg is the typical dosage, so 80mg is crazy! Be very careful with this drug because you may find the next day that the body was up and doing shit but you're brain checked out hours earlier. Or you'll be standing at the john taking a leak and the next thing you know, you're on the floor. Hopefully still in one piece! These are real life examples (so, yes they really do happen like that) so don't think it can't happen to me. Take it slow and easy.
