tl;dr: first paragraph and skip to bottom.

Would it be correct to say that if you can keep psychological addiction in check then you don't have to worry about physical addiction cos psychological addiction precedes physical addiction -simply talking about recreational usage not for any medical purpose where you would take it daily?

I had been afraid to try kratom cos of the physical aspect but with the above in mind if I can keep that in check then I wouldnt have to worry right?

I want to know how it compares to other addictive drugs ive tried.

For me I had a period where I took quite a bit of speed and another period when I enjoyed coke.

Speed was never really addictive for me even tho I took it every week for a while simply due to the horrific comedown I I despised myself for having taken it each time.

Coke on the other hand I did enjoy a small habit due to the easieness of its effects. I loved being able to have a cheeky gram with some mates on a monday evening over a few beers and games of pool and be fine for uni the next day. Even then my 'worst' was only taking it a cpl times a week. and having my nose bleeding/sore all the time as well as the price were mitigating factors.

The mental pull for 'just another line' was pretty strong and I would never leave any for another day, but it was more the fact there was no reason not too cos id be fine the next day, not like i was destroying my lifestyle. i remember when i found out i was gonna fail uni if i didnt stop and cram for resits i completely stopped instantly.

I also was pleased to not deal with the dickhead dealers who look down on you like your some loser junkie.

weed i used to smoke every single day in school and when i had to crack on to do my exams i stopped that within a week after smoking daily for a few years.

Smoking again I stopped around the same time i stopped smoking weed. Really satisfying coughing up those big yellow chunks and being able to breath more clearly again :P

MDMA isnt worth mentioning in terms of addictiveness.

Alcohol I used to drink 3 beers a day every day for a while and again stopped when I realized it was a waste of money and was making me fat.

So for me Id say addictiveness of:

speed- 6
coke- 8
weed- 6 again prob.

so psychologically speaking where would kratom fit on that scale for you in relation to other things mentioned above. please dont mention other opiates cos i havent used them so that is pointless to me. i want to know how it tallies with things ive already tried to get an idea of how it might be for me mentally.

Subjectively, for myself Kratom is similarly habit forming as cannabis. I find it easy and comfortable to use it often when I have it, but it doesn't give me strong cravings and once I decide to stop or I run out; it's pretty easy to go back to life without it with little trouble. If I don't use it everyday for more than 3-4 months, then I have little to no withdrawal symptoms at all. Weed might be a little harder for me to give up because its stronger and I like it before bed.

What I like about it is that I can stay within the same dose range and not have to increase much to compensate for tolerance. I use between 0.5-2.5 tsp's, depending on my tolerance and how strong I want it to be. I usually buy ~500g and use it until I run out, then take a month break before getting more. This wipes any small gain in tolerance and I always start off being able to feel a great buzz off of 1 tsp.

Compared to the drugs you listed though, Kratom differs in that it can only get you so high. It offers a nice mild-moderate buzz where you can be productive and do anything you could while sober, any more than that and it tends to get you dizzy and sick. To me this is a big positive though, because it limits how much it can be abused and makes it easier to use in a semi responsible manner.

Interesting, cheers.

So you never have troubles stopping indefinitely even after running thru a 500g bag?

Yes I like the idea it has a ceiling effect, I just want something easy and safe to chill with and I hate the effect of cannabis so that rules that out.

I'm a former opiate addict. Well, I still am thanks to kratom. Lost my job and went broke and I've been struggling with high dose withdrawal for a while. It can be surprisingly difficult without a rational taper.

Everyone is different when it comes to addiction, you can't put drugs on a scale from 1 to 10 and have those numbers apply to everyone. Situational factors usually play a big role.

If you find kratom pleasurable chances are you will try to use it every day and it is up to yourself to stop that. Just be aware that it forms dependence like any other opioid.

Stick to weekend usage if you can. Anyway, I'm gonna close this thread... we're not in the business of being personalized doctors. Or speculating about your addiction.
