I was thinking about attending some for the first time soon but thought it might be a very huge trigger if I went there and some asshole came all nodding out the entire time and obviously high. Does this happen a lot in your experience? What happens to them if they come high, kicked out or do the sober people made to suffer sitting there watching them nod off the entire time and ruining the whole meeting?

It happens but not frequently. I've found that if I sit up front I avoid distractions (side-bar conversations, other people's actions, attractive females. etc)

This approach also makes it easier to raise my hand and participate since I can't see everyone looking at me when I speak.

I go to NA meetings and we don't kick people out. By taking such action would be detrimental to those who want to get clean but simply don't know how. 'The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using'.

If you sit up front you won't see anyone who may or may not be high. Also, there are candlelight meetings in many areas. The darkness is helpful in many ways.

Give it a try, man. Just try and be honest and have an open mind. Don't allow one meeting to be the deciding factor.

Shit, I just noticed you're in Philly. Shoot me a PM and, if you want, we'll head out together. There is actually an 11:00 PM meeting in the city tomorrow that is a candlelight meeting.

what he said^ haha

also i think it says" you dont have to be clean the first time you go to a meeting, but it is suggested you keep coming back and not high." something like that.

i tell you that so u know that NA does not bar anyone from meetings as long as they have some desire to get clean.

candlelight meetings??sounds kind of weird..lol

im sure there are people that go to NA meetings high...there are also people that go to NA meetings that intend on selling drugs..just part of the gig..most go there with good intentions though..

I have very rarely seen somebody intoxicated at an AA/NA meeting. One was asked to leave only because he was yelling and being disruptive. Otherwise people are allowed to stay, it would be silly to force people to be clean before being allowed to come to a meeting.

I you think meeting will be helpful for you, I wouldn't let this be too much of a concern...

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using.

I barely see anyone come in high, sometimes. My brother turned up at one recently and was gouching throughout, felt v. uncomfortable with him being there like that.

this one candlelight meeting was pretty cool. A chair was placed up front with a candle underneath it to symbolize the addicts who died from their addiction. I kinda dig symbolic stuff like that.
