How much time and energy do you put in to making your edibles "special"?

And when I say special, I don't mean medicated. For example, I spent 8 hours making a batch of about two dozen raw, vegan hash cookies that are ridiculously tasty. (High quality 70% dark chocolate, dried mango, goji berries, avocado blossom honey, and dried coconut).

What other amazing edible creations have you had/made and how long did it take?

Mostly, I am wondering if my sanity is still in tact because I spent so much time on a batch of cookies (I probably could have made them a bit faster, but I am sick so I am a bit slower and the chopped mango and packaging took forever!).

I'll post a pic of my creation if anyone wants and when I reach bluelighter status (if I am not mistaken, I can't post pics yet).

I hope to be impressed and put to shame!

Well seeing as it takes me usually 8 hours alone to make a big batch of cannabutter I'd say i'm with you there mate.

It takes a long time to get all that THC out of a big batch say 2 ounces of leaf. Good old water butter and lots of leaf method. Unfortunately your house stinks like shit after doing this haha.

I generally then use the cannabutter in triple choc chip cookie mix with a heap of dark, white and milk chocolate chips and some really good quality Cocoa. Fucking tasty times. :)

I'd love to see a pic.

Bluelight gallery is hating on me, also it seems to be on its way out the door. I wonder if they are going to replace the gallery? The info regarding the tech changes don't seem to mention a spiffy new gallery system. I used tinypic. hope its not a violation of the rules, if so, please remove.

To prepare the cannabis, It only really took 1-2 hours. I prefer doing an iso extraction. I don't really like the taste of cannabis in my edibles. Just doesn't do it for me. I much prefer hash edibles. It is also much cheaper (cups of butter vs cups of iso alcohol) and faster (2-5 seconds of soak time vs hours with butter). Evaporation is kinda annoying but greatly accelerated with a mild heat source.

In this batch, I used an oz of shake, which created 1.7 grams of oil and then I added 1.7 grams of regular hash to make sure it had the punch I needed. The problem with my recipe, is there is no way to ensure even distribution of the medicine such as with butter. On the other hand, I love randomness and the varying dosage pleases my mind in that respect. Solution- eat several at once!

Next time, I am going to look in to dissolving the hash oil in to the honey. Anyone have experience doing this? I doubt regular hash will dissolve without heating the honey (making it no longer raw). Yes I know I know, honey isn't vegan but I am not a vegan or raw foodist. It is entertaining to just try and meet various people's dietary needs. Plus I don't think the honey will stay as well or taste as good if it gets heated.

Or perhaps, some sort of powderized hash or the hash oil? Ah, I need to score an oz of kief or so. That would greatly increase my cookie abilities.

BTW I store these in the fridge so the cookies stay together a bit better. Any ideas on how to make the cookies stick together better at room temp? Molasses I think would do better than honey but I don't like the flavor so much I think when mixed with these ingredients, perhaps with an oatmeal raw cookie. Corn starch? Super glue?

tripman - do you get bored of eating brownies all the times? Sometimes, don't you feel the need for a less fatty, lighter tasting snack? For instance, I could eat the whole batch of these cookies, I can't eat a whole tray of brownies. Also, these cookies I made, can essentially be infinitely powerful, stuffing a whole gram of hash in to each one would not be difficult and it remains in a small but powerful package. just some thoughts on how I like my edibles.

Also, I think that aroma is pretty good, maybe its just that cali bud that smells better :p hehe

Also, when I say 8 hours, It took me 8 hours of work, not 8 hours of waiting around. I usually cook my butter overnight, sometimes multiple nights if I get lazy/busy and don't have the time to do finish the process lol.

I see you are from Australia, are there any unique Australian candies or pasties? I would love to make some just for fun. Perhaps we both can and compare results? =D

I think you are way more into edibles than I am from the sounds of that post! And they look fucking tasty man I would happily munch them down. Perhaps the solution to keeping them together is to do a google search about what makes regular cookies like this stay together? Lots of cooking forums around you could ask also.

Well no doubt about cali bud smelling better I imagine... Haha prick.

I don't have any recipes specific to australia but I have tried this North African recipe out and it was great.

Majoun:

Place about one pound of ghee in a pan with plenty of water and about 3 cups stalks, seeds, and leaves of kif. After bringing it to a boil let it simmer for 2 hours, then carefully strain it into a large, deep, roasting pan. Throw away the stalks, seeds, and leaves and let the butter cool and rise to the top in the refrigerator overnight.

Place the butter in the pan with 1 pound chopped dates, 1 pound chopped figs, 1/2 pound raisins, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, some ground cinnamon, 1 tablespoon aniseed, 1/2 cup dark, heavy honey, and 1/2 cup each ground almonds and walnuts (these proportions are from The Hashish Cookbook). Then cook all this together until it became very thick and brown. Add some orange flower water and ras el hanout to taste, then pack the majoun in clean jars.

If you make it i wouldn't go too heavy on eating lots to begin with. A tablespoon or two has had me pretty gone.

And yeah brownies get pretty boring. And very bloating to eat lots of. I was always curious about using the cannabutter as you would butter in a more savoury dish. I'm not such a sweet tooth!

whoa the majoun sounds seriously delicious. I was following the recipe up until this part
Add some orange flower water and ras el hanout to taste

Looked up orange flower water, sounds interesting.

Ras el hanout? even better, the random loving side of me in intrigued

Imma gonna try to make this as soon as I can source the ingredients. Ras el hanout? gonna be an interesting one to find and test the varieties.

honestly I would look in to making hash and just adding that in to whatever you are going to eat. The whole dissolve and heat thing isn't really necessary. From what I have gathered, it makes it much more quickly available to your body so when it hits you, it HITS you. But, at the same time it doesn't last as long since your body is metabolizing it much faster. I highest I have ever been taking cannabis orally was just eating large chunks of hash. Edibles not so much but maybe I had learned my lesson by then and didn't over do it.

though if you just add butter to whatever, it will work. I have a friend who likes to do that, gets bakes breakfast lunch and dinner. One time I was over and he just fried up some asparagus in cannabutter. Actually pretty good and got me sleepy in 1-2 hours. You can even cook those prepared food like taquitos or anything else that is kinda greasy. They end up super buttery but that usually means more tasty. I wouldn't worry too much about dosage if you are familiar with the effects of edibles. Just try it and feel it out.

Chocolate is not vegan :|

milk chocolate isn't vegan, dark chocolate is

cocao butter is basically vegetable oil in case you are confusing that with some sort of dairy product

well, i apologize, I don't really consider hershey's anything to be chocolate lol that stuff tastes terrible, even the "dark" chocolate that they make.

I was pretty confused myself about what cocoa butter was for a long time. That lasted for years until I bothered to google it. Sometimes it is amazing how I wonder at things and never bother to look them up.

Here is the list of ingredients on the chocolate chocolate bars I used:
organic cocoa beans, organic sugar, organic cocoa butter

The brand, btw, is Theo, absolutely delicious chocolate if you like the dark stuff. They are based up in Seattle. They make 70% and 91% dark chocolates featuring cocoa beans from various locales around the world. Definitely taste the difference. They recently changed the 91% from venezuela to costa rica. The venezuelan was much more bitter and rich - I loved it! I am so sad they switched it to the lighter flavored, sweeter costa rican stuff.

Not all chocolate is created equal, you are right. And again, I don't really care bc I am not vegan, but I am pretty sure my snack, save the honey, is vegan.

oh my god

it may be because i havent really eaten a whole whole lot today

but those are the most delicious looking things i have ever laid my eyes on. wow

GREAT JOB

...we never get anything like that here =(

as a native seattleite, i'm glad you mentioned theo cuz it's the dankest chocolate around ;)

as far as evenly distributing hash into a cookie, i'm sure you can easily dissolve it in a small amount of warm organic coconut oil. coco oil's not the best for the heart (99% saturated) but it goes straight to the liver for energy metabolism, making the cookies kick in pretty damn fast. plus the extra virgin stuff has a delicate coconut odor that blends well with chocolate without overpowering it.

plain coconut oil is also one of the best all-natural skin and hair conditioners i've tried-- it keeps my dry skin from flaking without causing any breakouts, and it makes me smell like i just got back from the tropics!
