one of my friends became a Certified resume writer, and he wants to know whats a good price to charge. He has seen all type of prices from $50 to $300, but whats a good price to charge you guys think.

I think it all depends on the services he offers and how he works. Some resume writers will sit with the client and work through the resume with them, some will just ask for information and then take it away and produce the resume, some will offer other services such as writing Selection Criteria (generally for Government roles - which could be a tidy profit-earner as most people either hate or can't write them).

I think the best way for him to gauge a cost is to just research more - perhaps he could start at the lower end of the price range, and as his skills and experience increases, so could his prices?

define 'good' (in the context of price)?

i'm not a certified resume writer but i assume he doesn't just have one product/service with one price? surely he has a range of products and services (because, i assume, his customer base has a range of different requirements)?

he must have thought about this when he put his business together? what criteria is he applying when deciding whether to charge by the hour as opposed to by the task? surely he's done some research of his competition and has considered how to differentiate himself from such and whether that will be solely a function of the cost of his products and services. he'll need to factor in geographic factors - what are those?

your friend is in a much better position to answer this question for himself than we are to answer this for him...

his done research, thats how he got his current price of $99, its not as high as $300 and its not lower end either.. But right now his convertion rate is very low. But I think your right, he should start at the lower end, and then he should start to increase it.

well i was kind of looking for I won't pay more than $X amount, from here. basically was looking for what would people are willing to pay to a certified writer to write their resume and cover letter.

i won't pay $1 to somebody to write my resume and cover letter. it's something i can do myself for free... :)

if i were to pay somebody to professionally write a resume from scratch, i might reasonably expect that to take 4 or 5 hours, done right. at $40 an hour, that would be about $160 - $200...

I think that everyone has a slightly different opinion on what constitutes a 'good' résumé. Unless someone is willing to sit down with you and cater your application to a specific job, I'm not entirely sure it's worth much at all. Maybe a few bucks for a good outline, but those can easily be found online.

Mods, feel free to shoot this over to E&C when you feel discussion has run its course here.

Ime, around 250 EUR. But the problem with hiring one of these dudes is that they fill it with searchable keywords blatantly which pises off the human readers who can't stand it when you game the keyword system that much, and this makes the actual resumes seem out of touch with certain job markets in certain countries. I had one that was almost full of text with little white space. It garnered no interest. When I redesigned it to be minimal, I got a job interview from every place I sent it into. It's an original template, too. If you need some help, let me know - iam working on three resumes for three friends right now, tonight. These guys are paying me because they saw the real results of my simple, short resume.

A good resume might get you an interview, but you will likely perform better in that interview if you have taken the time to grind out your resume personally.
