How many actually like Techno? How many tolerate it?

I was just wondering how many of you actually do raves for the music. i.e. how many would classify it as your pet music genre?
I have to say that I couldn't classify it up the top of my music list, it's become more of an acquired taste. Mostly because I know it's piss easy to produce on any PC. Secondly because there's no lyrics.
Hiphop is my number 1. Has been ever since I heard my first NWA track in grade 5.

I think the acquired taste thing has some validity. Techno really does have a time and place, not everyone has the patience to listen to it with no 'hook' in the music nor any funk groove, harmonic resonancies, or straight melody to hum along to.
That still doesn't stop people from liking it and with good reason.
Techno (for me) won't be my favourite form of music, but it doesn't mean I don't accept it or get a nothing out of it. I really enjoy Teriyaki for example, the music, the no fuck around vibe, the ever changing chill out music upstairs. Towards the other side of the scale... fuck its been a while since I've seen classical (my Musica Viva subscription ran out last year and I didn't renew), and I still enjoy relaxing in the car to 105.9FM or 103.5FM (except on sat afternoon when then play Jazz, which is evil, unless its live... then it rocks... Napier Hotel anyone?).
Hip Hop is a thing I can't get into either, and I feel to listen to it is to give in to evil american culture. Does that mean I'm an evil person? Well.. kind of - but that's my opinion. Judge me not for who I am. Some hiphop musically is excellent, some of it is just a whole lot of people in video clips bending their elbows and putting their hands in front of them, bobing their hands up and down in front of some girls stuffed into tight dresses and trying to glorify just how utterly spastic they all look. Hip Hop DJ's fucking rock however - some of those guys are unbeliveable.
But I digress.
hmmmm I'm digressing to the end of this post it seems. Would love to write more but I actually have to do some work today.

Hip Hop for is my favourite style of music as i think its the most flexible. Meaning it has the ability to borrow elements from nearly any genre and combine it into something new. Which is why i love it so much.
But Fucking hell, all music kicks ass!
Hip Hop, Psy, House, Techno, DnB, Jazz, Soul, Classical, Blues, Funk, Disco, Rock,
etc,

Its all good!!

NOW, onto original discussion. yeh, i love electronica, trance, especially psy, NRG, hard house, etc. I do go to some party's purely because of the music, but often i go because a lot of my friends are going, even though the music will be nothing special or unordinary. Electronica is my fav type of music, as its so versatile, lively and unique (and i'm getting sick of Guitars - 60 odd years(of rock) is enough don't you think?)
The lack of lyrics is my fav part as well, can't stand commercial dance with all those lyrics, WHERE ARE THE BEATS?!?! Hip Hop? Can't stand it, have just never liked it!]

This person oppitimises (sp?) the reason that the rave scene is becoming a fucking joke. You should be going to raves/parties to enjoy (in order):
1. The MUSIC.
2. The atmosphere.
3. Whatever else tickles your fancy.
The music we go to enjoy is not something that should be 'tolerated'. If you're there tolerating the music, then get the fuck out of there. Go somewhere else and take your drugs...

i have to say i tend to "tolerate" techno. but by that i mean pure techno, the genre. i have a deep love for psytrance, trance, all types of breakbeat stuff, deephousey stuff, nrg type stuff, happyhard sorts of stuffs. i also love a whole huge range of non-electronic stuff.
but i dont really like pure doof doof bangin techno, it bores me to tears (sorry dan) and the more minimal it is, the less i like it. does that make me a bad raver or something that shouldnt be in the scene cuz i want to run away when i hear will e tell play? should i not be at parties if its mostly techno being played? =(
and i mightn't like it, but i sure do respect it when its done well. no genre is really easy to make. crap in any genre tends to be easy to make.. a crap pop song or techno track or jungle. but in every genre, there are quality tracks that display a mastery of the elements that make a good piece of music. and mastery of those elements, to really understand the heart of the artform, isnt all that easy to come by.
imo only of course. dont all flame cuz i dont like bangin techno. oh yeah, and chill out y'all, not everyone can like techno just cuz you do! ppl are allowed to come in n say its crap if they want
