Help! How long should I wait between last Mirtazapine dose and a psychedelic?

It is my understanding that Mirtazapine will block the effects of psychedelics. I've heard that some people have used it to abort bad trips. How long would someone who is prescribed mirtazapine have to stop taking it for psychedelics to have full-effect. Mirtazapine apparantely has a half life of 20-40 hours.

I have only been taking Mirtazapine foe the last 3 months. I was taking it for 2 months at 7.5 - 15mg per day. Then I took probably 3-4 weeks off of it and I recently started taking it again. I think I have only taken it the last 3 or 4 nights. I am considering tripping Monday evening. My last dose of Mirtazapine was Friday night. Do you think that the psychedelic would have an effect?

I've been experiencing this unshakeable depression for a number of months. I feel that I could use a psychedelic experience. It almost always helps my outlook. It's been almost a year since my last experience, so I am due for one. If need be I can hold off for a week or two. I've just found myself in the mood for a psychedelic these last few days which is rare for me. I'm usually too anxious to take them

Due to it's long half life I would optimally wait at least 2 weeks after last dose before using psychedelics. You could use it sooner, 12 or 10 days, but it will likely have some level of muted effect. Anything sooner than 7 days would probably be a complete waste.

I'm not that familiar with mirtrazapine's antagonist activity compared to a more traditional AP, so I'm just comparing it to other antipsychotics.

In my experience with risperidone and olanzapine, tripping within 12 days of last dose was a waste of the psychedelic. You may still feel stimulation and have some level of trip, but the visuals and largest benefits will be blunted or even missing.

Anyways, its difficult to predict. I would say wait 7-10 days at a bare minimum, preferably longer.

That's what I figured. I'll probably aim for next weekend then. I've basically only been on it for 4 days at a pretty low dose, so I'm fairly certain that it will mostly be out of my system by next week, and by then any that remains in my system will be so low that I feel the effect on the trip would be negligible.

I appreciate the input! I would try it anyways, I have plenty of psychedelics, but I find a psychedelic experience that doesnt manifest into a full trip is almost always unpleasant for me. That's why I almost never use low doses of psychedelics.

Damn.

I scored some blotter the other day and I was looking forward to tripping on my next day off, which is tomorrow (Wed).

But I've been taking 15mg mirtazapine every evening for 2 years, and I just learned that it would block LSD's effects. Didn't know that.

Previous poster advised going 7--10 days (preferably more) without the Remeron before dropping the acid. I was really looking forward to this, as it's been 2 years since I've tripped (shrooms) and least a decade since I've done LSD.

My question is this: Is there any way to speed up the elimination of mirtazapine from my system? I was initially taking it only for sleep issues from quitting alcohol. I also take melatonin and I've been sleeping very well-- I was really only still taking the Remeron out of habit.

So...What can I do to get on the A Train as soon as possible?

Unrelated to the topic at hand, but have you ever had extremely wild and lucid dreams after taking mirtazapine? I was on it for a good bit in my teenage years and I remember the craziest lucid dreams that were straight out of a movie, I had a dream almost exactly like Inception where I realized I was dreaming and kept 'waking up' just to realize I was in another dream world on a loop

I don't know if mirtazapine plays a part, but I do have vivid (& often lucid) dreams every night. I also take melatonin and I'm usually still buzzing from edibles when I go to bed. I'm certain that both of those increase dreaming.

I love my dreamworlds. Always something trippy happening.

Alright, so now I'm reading all these dire warnings about stopping mirtazapine abruptly. I figured that 15mg was a pretty low dose and I wasn't planning to taper.
But maybe I should?

If anyone has any experience coming off Remeron, I'd appreciate any info you can share.

Thanks!

I've discontinued mirtazapine after 2 months on 15mg daily without issue. I was prescribed it for insomnia not depression and of course ymmv.

I got some pretty intense restlessness and insomnia after quitting daily regimen of 30 mg I had been on for 5 weeks or something. But it didn't last very long. I was also withdrawing off of benzos which made it worse.

This 5ht2x antagonism is one of the reasons I don't do mirtazapine too often or long courses. Also makes marijuana more boring. But being off for 5 days or like has always been enough to make drugs work wonders. Actually I don't even need that much time off, given I don't use it that much anyway.

I investigated it a bit and males commonly have slightly faster metabolization for mirt, closer to 20 hours than 30 hours half-life. That 40 hours half-life definitely applies sometimes, but most folks clear it out faster.

So 4 days off makes for ~5-10 % drug in the system compared to baseline in most people, but considering how strong 5ht2x antagonist mirtazapine is, the remaining amount from long sustained habit can still hinder the trip-also Quasimoto has told that antagonising 5ht2x receptors can actually downregulate them, so in theory it could take a bit longer than just clearing out system.
