How long did anxiety last for you?

I am five days clean from my habit of 10-15 10mg norco a day. I took them for 4-5 years every day. Started with one a day and eventually moved my way up until one day I just decided it was enough. All the physical sypmtoms have pretty much gone away except now I have severe anxiety from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep. I have a few Xanax pills but they aren't helping more then an hour or 2 at a time and I'm not sure how long I should prepare myself for this anxiety to last. I'm trying to take it one day at a time but this anxiety is worse than I could imagine

If the anxiety is due to withdrawal it should only last up to a week or two, but if you had anxiety beforehand then it may not go away completely, although it should still decrease once the withdrawals are over

What you are feeling is normal and expected when you stop using opiates. I have also quit and know how anxious and problematic things can get. But you've gone far and all you need to do now is try to focus on your patience and perseverance.

As the days and weeks go by you'll feel better and stronger and soon you'll be proud of yourself for achieving such a challenge.

We deserve a better life. Opiates creates an illusion of freedom and happiness that doesn't last long and during this time we do things we don't want too and others that block our sense of reality which makes us emotionally numb.

You've got this, just keep moving and be careful with the benzos you are taking.
They can also become a problem in your life. Furthermore, I'd suggest that you exercise and find things to keep yourself busy.

It's only one day at a time, and in certain periods on hour at a time. Whenever you feel like talking, please get in touch.

Congrats and good luck!
Erik

I would say it could just be from the withdrawal still. I always get a little emotional when detoxing. Opiates completely suppress all that shit so it comes back ten fold. Try to evaluate if something is bothering you. Just don't make any major decisions in the first few weeks at least.

Teaching yourself how to use mindfulness will help you in the short term with this but even more it will help you not to relapse because of the discomfort of your thoughts and emotions. Our minds get us into these entanglements but they can also free us from them. In many ways it is a matter of un-learning the ways we have become conditioned to think. It doesn't happen overnight but you have your whole life to practice.<3
