Benzos How hard you think it'll be to come off the last 4MG of Diazepam?

I've been on benzos daily for about 10 years. At points I was on 3MG klonopin, then 30MG Diazepam (abusing the fuck out of xanax at heroic doses then withdrawing got me into this mess.)

I've dwindled down to 4MG Diazepam. 2MG pill in the AM, 2MG pill at bedtime.

Do you think my brain and body can recover from being on benzos this long? Do you think I can fully get off this dose? I'm stable currently.

I want to continue my taper soon after I fully heal from surgery. I noticed that if I ever have to take an extra 1MG for anxiety or panic attack (rare), it calms me down like I have no tolerance.

I know that 4MG daily dose is very low, typically indicated as a pediatric dose. Just in my head about it, like always.

Thanks for any info.

it depends on so many factors.....usualy around 5 mgs diazepam is the place where people just jump on nothing.if they wanna do it.when i was quittin' diazepam years ago...been on this also for years on 10-15 mgs daily i tappered to 5 and then use lyrica-150mg daily for about two weeks or something......i had no withdrawls at all.....don't panic....it's a very small quantity to feel some big discomfort without it -aside from sleep disturbances and inner tension...get some pregabs or gabapentins....even baclofen...just in case.wish ya sucess!

I’m down to 3.5Mg. It’s been a bit difficult the last 5 days, but I’m trying to keep it going forward.

Do you think I’d be at risk for seizures at this low of a dose? Would my brain be healing some already since I’m on a low dose?

I doubt it. But you will likely need to taper even more slowly at this point, to avoid discomfort. So don’t rush yourself. You don’t know your brain is damaged, more likely just temporarily altered, but regardless your GABA receptors are upgrading, normalising. People who experience seizures due to abrupt withdrawal from GABAergics are not necessarily brain damaged, it’s just that their receptors can’t adapt quickly enough to the sudden change.

In my experience diazepam is very forgiving compared to clonazepam or alprazolam, so you have already had a major win by getting off the heavy hitters and on to diazepam.

Also from my research on this subject the fact that you can take a small extra dose of diazepam and get anxiety relief is a good sign that your receptors are still ok.

You have already done a lot of hard work getting to where you are now, give yourself credit for that.

As has been previously mentioned, lyrica/pregabalin can help and it doesn't act via the gaba receptors so should be fine to help with making the final jump.

I also find L-theanine and magnesium at night help a bit as well.

You can do it...best wishes.

Thanks guys, it means a lot. I had to go back up to about 3.8MG

Went down to 3.5 and it was a bit too much, but I wasn't doing a good job of keeping track of everything.

Thanks for all the help, I know I can do this!

i’m a recovering heroin addict. I didn’t wanna go on methadone again. I found it harder to come off than heroin in the past. Anyway, I’ve tapered. To DHC via oxycodone. Currently on 60mg dhc per day and rather proud of myself. I can jump from here, no problem.

However, the main long term problem whilst tapering was fatigue. eventually I wasn’t able to work. I have to work so I started using prescription uppers and cocaine to get me through the day. And then of course Valium to get me to sleep at night. Having come off the uppers and cocaine I realise I’ve now got a terrible addiction to Valium.

I have no idea how addictive it was. I’m only using 10 mg a night. But the withdrawals are insufferable. And, unlike opiates, they seem to go on forever. I didn’t sleep for a week. I had to go back on them. If I can’t sleep, eventually I get so exhausted I can’t work. Then I'm fucked.

So please can someone with some experience give me some advice as to how long and how I should taper off Valium. I’m sick of using substances. I don’t drink and I don’t smoke cannabis now. I’ve had enough. I’m sick of being addicted.

Best.
