I just recently moved to Houston, TX. I am not currently in school, and looking for a job. I'm just wondering if youve got any ideas on how to meet new people? Clubs and such wont work as I'm 17.

Anywhoo, any ideas would be welcome. Just unsure if I want to stay here due to lack of medium to meet people.

If you moved to Texas, visit Galveston. I had a trip out there, I loved it.
Concerts, fetivals, malls, parks are the basic places. I met one of my friends at a needle exchange.

Thank you RTTT, a non-bullshit post.
I was being serious. Sometimes you meet people when you aren't looking and least expect it. That's why I put in the needle exchange comment. Plus, Galveston is an awesome city. Lots to do there. And it's only an hour drive from Houston.

haha I thought u meant the other way too....

Through friends usually.

If im in a place i dont know, which will be the case when i move in a month, ill try to meet people at concerts, bars and the rock climbing gym.

I think you should go out and do things like hobbies and you'll meet people with similar interests.:)

your 17 man..get back to school even if its just for 1 semester..take some classes your interested in and doint sit there and be mope..make friends man they dont know you just like you dont know them, so you can be as cool as you want ...you can basiclly reinvent yourself

About twice yearly, I check in to a psychiatric hospital so I can think in a neutral setting for a while. I have met some amazing people in hospitals, some being beautiful women (hooked up on a few occasions too).

Better than looking for friends at the PSYCH WARD:

@OP
Ok, I thought you meant my post was BS cause of the needle exchange comment. This is a drug and social forum, so I figured it was fine to talk about stuff like that here :)
Like I said, I was just saying that you usually meet people when you're going about your day, when you least expect it. Maybe shopping at the store, maybe sitting on a bench in the park, things like that. A lot of times, they there's listings of local events. Go to the library and look around for some posters or grab a local paper.

It is hard being in a new town. You should work on getting your job and settling in first. I guarantee that along the way, you'll meet some cool people. Then once you have friends, you start hanging out in groups, and maybe one of them has a single friend for you.
Also like they said, a class at the community college would be good to socialize too. I took about 2 semesters after school. I didn't finish, but it was a nice experience. It was much more relaxed than high school. And if you come out with an associates even better. But, there's no new classes till summer probably.

Where did you live before and why'd you move? Did you move because your parents did or to get away from them? I hope you get to spend some time in Galveston too. I spent a week there 3 years ago and had a great time. Good luck man!

Why not try to tied into the local rave scene..(they have a lot that have no age limit) or if you don't like that find a jam band concert... Both places have very friend people, and good music...

I did most my parting in Corpus Christi, Tx when i was down there for awhile...
