How do you deal with insomnia?

EXERCISE! People underrate it so much, especially when it comes to sleeping problems. I hate to sound like a jerk but I swear at least 80% of "insomnia" is usually nothing more than a lack of exercise coupled with too much caffeine and a bad diet. People start looking to drugs to cure their insomnia and end up not being able to sleep without them, thusly furthering the cycle which is obviously no bueno.

If you're sobering up and trying to avoid meds, definitely try working out every day. You don't even have to do anything super intense to garner benefits.

In addition to exercise, a routine definitely helps your body get back into sleeping properly. Both of these are things people have already mentioned so I won't go any further. I really just wanted to emphasize the exercise part :P

Feel better!

Thanks User!

Yea, cut caffeine out of my diet, eating real well (when I'm not all fucked up this actually comes very naturally thanks to a "good"/leafy green vegetable upbringing), and enjoying a couples hours of strenuous yoga + tennis or baseball per day. I think it's still just my body adjusting to being sober.

Arg, and you're also so right about the routine. Made the mistake of going to bed to early last/tonight and, although I did get like an hour and a half in, sort of sabotaged myself... Such is life, live and learn, and screw it up, and learn how to live some more.

But hey, like I've said, I'll take a couple sleepless weeks to a fricken dope habit ANY day! :D

I've always been pretty insomniac, of course during a withdrawal and afterwards it can get a whole lot worse.

I go through periods of sleeping OK, but when a sleepless phase hits nothing has ever really worked (though am looking forward to giving phenibut a go).

Fortunately I seem to be able to function without sleep, I think over the years I've just convinced myself that 5 minutes all night is enough to scrape by on...

Agree about the exercise and cutting caffeine helping :)

I still have transient insomnia despite not using caffeine at all (most especially when I'm not using stimulants at all), having a good diet, and exercising a lot. But you are right, I think many people who have sleep issues fall into the group you categories, and 80% is a good estimation if not accurate statistic. :)

However, ironic as it is, some athletes may experience exercise induced insomnia.
