How close is USA to legalization?

haha yeah man it makes you realize your a slave once your born. Why would you want to work 8hours a day all your life when u assume u sleep 8hours a day if your healthy(hah) so thats like 2/3's your life doing shit you dont wanna do for other people's gain.

"And then they got hiiigh and then they got hiiigh"

For instance, in British Columbia, it's illegal, but on Cannabis Day (I'm not sure if that's what they call 4/20 or it's a different date) cops stand by and watch HUNDREDS of people toke all day long in the middle of town. They even block traffic for bands to play! It's just easier to look the other way for small offenses, and that's the next logical step for us.

How far? Far... Believe me...... Far. I'm going to let you people think for yourselfs instead of typing all the fucking things. Just think about all the influences, government, majority, general corruption etc.

Capitalists don't like recreational drug use because it makes workers less interested in being productive, and less in need of consuming a wide variety of material things to make them happy. Thus less tax revenue, and less money pumped through the economy. Now why would any good capitalist want that?

but when you use recreational drugs you're spending money on a material thing that makes you happy.

and i think it's capitalism's belief that the labor market will regulate itself, and thus doesn't need government intervention to improve worker productivity.

As if the no. 1 capitalistic country of the world, the country who symbolizes the free market in its purest form, will allow a drug that might inspire the ones who use it, to question the values of the system it promotes. Right on! :\

As long as profit is the only benchmark no country will consider legalization. In the current capitalistic system a drug like cannabis is not appreciated.

you're thinking too much.

politicians aren't keeping marijuana illegal because they're afraid their society will have their minds opened. they're keeping it illegal because it's good for them to keep it illegal . . they get more support from law enforcement and misinformed soccer moms than they do from the pro-legalization side. but as that balance shifts, and i believe it is shifting now, there's no reason for them not to shift their own views. if there's more money in taxation than there is in criminalization, and more support for ending the war on drugs than un-educated stigma, then there's no reason to continue opposing the already-in-progress state-by-state decriminalization movement.

and all this talk about capitalism being anti-marijuana confuses me. the sole tenet of capitalism is not that workers should be productive at all costs or that society shouldn't question the leadership -- it's that people ought to be able to buy and sell whatever they want to buy and sell without government intervention. so why not pot?

The thug that extorts money from you regularly isn't going to take kindly to you doing anything that jeopardizes you making more money for him to squeeze you for.

I'm assuming you know that the Capitalists are wrong, right? Because if anything, I'd say that I can find pleasure in the most mundane tasks because I can be inside my head and outside of it at the same time, or I can see interesting little things where I previously couldn't. But that IS why many people who buy into the capitalist bullshit are against the legalization...

What's even crazier is the fact that, generally speaking, big time growers wouldn't want pot legalized because it means the government can take control of growing and put them out of business because they have greater resources... Or anyone could supply themselves. Ironic, no?
