As suggested by the title, we are looking for your input as to how we can improve the forum.

Bare in mind that the forums number one purpose is to educate people about Harm minimisation in regards to MDMA and closely related substances. Are we meeting that goal? Are tools such as The Directory assisting to achieve that goal or do they need tweaking or overhauling?

To make the place even better we need your help.

So what things would you do if you had the chance to?

The purpose of this thread is for you to have a say and then in turn your ideas can be discussed further and if its generally felt its a good idea and is within our overall guidelines then we would work to implement such changes.

This is your chance to make a difference.

Lets hear your thoughts.

Interesting, many people who post questions in ED can be answered by the banner atop ED

"Click here for Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Ecstasy"

A suggestion, albeit a small one:
This sticky thread The DIRECTORY. GOT A QUESTION? LOOK HERE FIRST - alot of people skip over this despite it being sticky.. Perhaps the font could be changed to a different colour to make it more noticeable?

:P

Great suggestion Trancefreak. I do remember asking if this was possible some years ago and getting a negative answer. I suspect it still is but I do believe that we could have different colours for the "Click here" banner.

If we changed colours, what would everyone think woiuld be the best most eye catching colour?

Red probably.

A useful tool would be overview of all the studies of ecstasy carried out in the last 30 years.
If this was in table form a rating or short commentary could be given for each study.
E.g. "tiny sample", "shown to be flawed", "confirmed" etc.
This perhaps would provide a point of reference so that alarmist or simply wrong statements referring to one or other study could be put in proportion.

Thanks for the feedback augusta, Im not quite sure I understand what you mean and would love for you to elaborate a bit.
Were you aware that there was a section in the Directory specially designated to mdma studies? Is that the sort of thing you meant or more specific?

Nope I wasn't aware of that. I just get so fed up with people suddenly digging up a study (usually alarmist) and spreading gloom and doom. I'm going to have a look at the directory section.

I think that's a great idea, augustaB. It'd be invaluable to have some kind of informal "literature review" to put outdated ideas to rest.

I think the first step would be putting together a numbered list of papers in a stickied thread (with help from the Directory perhaps). Then we could go through it as a community and give our opinion (with cited sources) of whether or not each paper is still relevant, or if some other paper in the list supersedes/refutes it. At the end, I imagine we'll have a nice little "web" of articles and their associations. :)

Something, anything, to help cutback on the hate spewed out by some when someone is asking about the frequency of themselves rolling. I know it's a strange suggestion but I just don't understand how people can spread hate in the ecstasy discussion forum.

Tear it down, we actually have an absolute no flaming rule however from time to time things get past.

Please feel free to use the report button (The ! down in the left corner of every post) or send a pm off to a mod.

There certainly should not be any hating going on. Cheers.

Yes I was thinking about how to make my idea clearer in response to Mazdan's comments. I think you've pretty much articulated what it should be.

The trouble with the Directory in the current form is that it doesn't give you a direct reference to a particular study. So if somebody says study X you can't easily go a find out what people think of study X without plowing through a lot of literature or references.

I think that once you've got a basic framework it would or should be fairly easy to add on new studies or ones that have been ignored.

It would be quite a lot of work though.

augusta, we are having a discussion about your idea in the mods lounge. Are you familiar with the topics and able to understand most of whats written?
Do you have some ideas formed about how it could be presented?

I work as a translator and technical writer so I have a sort of layman's understanding of these kind of articles. I understand about sample sizes, double blind testing, and how to present results in such a way that your hypothesis is supported. I know some basic chemistry but the sort of biochemistry discussed is often beyond me. After all I left school at 16 in 1963.

Regarding presentation I thought that you might be able to have a hyperlinked table with the "official" name of the study in the left hand column, the alternative name in the second column, a brief description, and a rating on the extreme right (perhaps one to five stars). Clicking on the rating could lead to a brief justification of the rating. Clicking on the official name would lead to the study itself (or an abstract). The table could be arranged chronologically with the oldest studies at the top and the newest at the bottom. You guys will probably have some refinements of your own to add.

Hope this helps

A.

Cheers mate, I think purple and RGB are going to be looking into this in more depth so i suspect they will be in touch with you.

Seems like you started a ball rolling mate, Well done.

I have writen and given to a mod a write up on what one may ecpect for a first time ecstasy experience...I like to see that put up somewhere.

Also I would like to see a maybe a faq page where common myths are debunked and common questions are answered. I know all of this is covered in the directory but I think alot of people skip over it and if they don't skip it...it can be a bit of information overload when they get in there and see how much info there really is contained there.

There was also a sugestion of a "trusted poster" lable for people who know their stuff and give sound advice...I think that might be a good way to take a bit of burden off of the mods. new users can see at a glance if the person is a reputible poster and have a better idea of the amount of credit they should give to that persons posts.

I am also willing to help anyway I can in producing such threads or information if needed.

Matt2012 has a great idea, the logistics of making it happen is....up to you guys I guess. However, my wife and I are very new to mdma but love it and are also mature enough to know to be careful and also green enough to be stupid.
We have seeked info from bluelight and have received excellent info from many of those "reputable" posters. That trusted poster is a great idea. Its not hard to tell them apart, when one (ie) Matt2012 gives the info to you straight up and the next posters comments are along the lines of....YA that fucking shit is da bomb man its the best and do lots.
If Matt2012 and a few others had a symbol of "trusted poster" we could just go right to those instead of having to sift through all the crap.

Thanks to Matt2012 and a some very select others.

I like the idea of the 'trusted poster' but wouldnt that start off alot of flaming/mistrust?

For example, if one posts a question, and it is answered by a NON "trusted poster", even if the info is indeed correct...because theyre not labelled a "TP", it would mean that some people wouldnt SEE it as correct, because it came from someone not labelled as such. I see it now,
"why should I trust what you say, youre not even a trusted poster"... and the like.
Sorry if thats not too clear, can elaborate if needed. Mind's a bit of a blank right now when it comes to vocabulary ;)

I think with a little judgement we can tell them apart. There are no TP's right now but we generally know who gives legit info and who has their head lodged firmly in their ass.
The stuff I am tired of sifting through is the crap where someone thinks they found a new msn to play on and all they have to offer is ITS DA FUCKEN BOMB MAN DUDE YA ROCKIN DO IT DO IT AND DO LOTS
