How can we get this place active again?

To my ear it always sounded like 'My cunt lick'. Got told off once for pronouncing it a bit too close to that so make more of an effort now. Welsh is not an easy language to use when unfamiliar with it. Words very rarely pronounced anything much like they're spelled. I'm still not entirely sure how to pronounce my street name. Is 'maes' pronounced 'mice' or 'mace'? I've been told off for both but also heard Welsh folk using both.

It's definately pronounced "mice". I cannot imagine why a Welsh person would pronounce it "Mace" unless it was a regional accent thing or they were 'posh Welsh' or they were taking the piss, which im sure you'd have picked up on anyway....

Yeah, I usually pronounce it 'mice' but have definitely been told I was saying it wrong with both pronunciations. I sometimes wonder if some folk just like to make out you're getting it wrong for the fun of it. I think there may also be some differences between people who speak it as a first language and people who've moved here and learnt from lessons - there do seem to be almost different "versions" of Welsh. Dialects and accents and stuff I presume - same as in English the same word will be pronounced differently depending on who you ask.

Welsh words are pronounced exactly as they are spelled. You just don't know the sounds certain letters (such as ae = I) make. It's far more phonetic than English. There are no silent letters. That has to be far easier than English in that respect.

Cos some dude thought it would attract tourists, sadly. And it did because I've been there at least twice. 8)

Cos that's what it happens to be called probably. I can't recall the whole translation but it's a fairly detailed description of where the village is in relation to something or other I think. "The village at the end of the valley etc, etc" something like that anyway. I suspect it's also got a tourism element as Swampy mentions - locals tend to abbreviate many Welsh town names for simplicity.
