I always strive to be a good customer. I think that customer service is a two way street. I've found that by being gracious to your vendor/provider/whatever you will generally have a much better customer service experience.
Please tell us what you do or have done and what, in your view, made for a pleasant customer.

When I used to make sandwiches at a popular sandwich chain it was always nice to have considerate customers.
I would say that when you're ordering a sandwich
  • Greet the sandwich maker before you launch into your order.
  • Consider that the person behind the counter is not a computer and will not be able to process your order if you're saying it as fast as you can.
  • Please do not talk on your cell phone and order your food at the same time.
  • If you have a list of sandwiches that you need made please tell me so I can start them all at the same time. It will be much faster for you, me and the people waiting in line.
  • Please realize that I just work here and that I do not dictate the prices. If the place where I work says I have to charge you extra for something, I have to charge you extra.

Kinda generic but you would be surprised by the people who appear to be clueless about these things.

Please help me in my attempt to stimulate the economy and not be such an ass-hat at your place of business. :)

Thanking people with a smile can really make someone's day, I've found. I worked retail in my teenage years, and on those days where you've had customers from hell, the few that have said 'thank you' always stuck in my head.

The only thing I disagree with is the price thing. I worked in a restaurant for 3 years and if I could get you a deal on anything, I would do my best. If it was free dessert, free coffee, free salad or an extra refill, it was always my pleasure. I didn't give a shit, and the company didn't lose nearly as much as my customer (and myself) gained.

Now I was making tips, and I suppose at a sandwich place you aren't, but to this day, I always feel a bit offended if I get charged for things like dipping sauces. I always make sure to give a tip to someone who sneaks me something free under the table. I sincerely appreciate it.

When you are ordering coffee from anywhere, don't just say "one regular coffee". A customer said this to my friend and my friend asked, "Regular size (as in medium) or regular cream & sugar?". The girl replied, "Just regular" (really helpful), so my friend gave her a medium with cream and sugar. The customer then screamed, "This isn't black!"

It may be different from place to place but I think in general when ordering any type of coffee/espresso drink, start with:
1) Size
1.5) If decaf, say decaf next!
2) Type of drink (coffee, latte)
3) Milk, sugar, sweetener, etc.
4) Extra hot, no foam, cinnamon on top, etc.

"regular" means one cream, one sugar.

That lady was a retard.
