I agree with the benzos approach. When I personally trip on high dose acid, i like having the peace of just knowing that the pill is sitting on the desk, just in case I should need it - this alone keeps my mind from running off most of the time.
A few other things:
Change the music! I know it sounds silly, but I have administered a good amount of "First Time" LSD trips to friends and when I begin to see the expression on their face start to get a bit spooked, the first thing I do is look to put on a more uplifting/melodic/happy song. This is not a time to be listening to TOOL, Megadeath, and/or Rammstien!!! Usually melodic trance with light beats or even "New Age" music like Yanni or Enya(Laugh all you want, the shit works!!!) This generally does wonders! I feel that music is by far one of the most important stimuli during an LSD trip. It does posess the ability to totally turn a trip around for the better.
If this doesn't work, a great way to help the person tripping out of control is to provide them with a nice soft blanket and have them go barefoot. This is under the assumption that you have already gotten the person to a safe, familiar place (i.e. Home). It is amazing the sense of "Grounding" that being barefoot on a rug can feel, and how effectively it reminds you that you are still very much on planet earth. The blanket offers a great degree of comfort and security, which is almost always immediately appreciated.
Well, I hope this helps. Good luck, and safe tripping.
