I would just like to share my experience of the most horrible detox ever. I had been doing heroin percs, vics oxys, any opiates really for about 2 years straight non stop, and I had been doing kpins xanax and valium in large amounts, im talking 2-3 mg of kpins ans 2-3 mgs of xanax a day with the occasional 20 mg kpin or valium binge, I mean I was saturated in opiates and benzos and my worst fear was having to detox from them... then one day I got caught stealing something and got sent to county jail, where they did not give me my benzos and obviously no opiates... this is what happened to me

day 1: Feeling a little shitty, nothing to bad, locked in medical for observation.

day 2: the diarrhea comes in full force, I was pissed out my ass 4-5 times and became unable to eat any food at all

day 3: the smell of food was disgusting, still diarrhea every 3 hours or so, so bad that I shit my pants, then while laying in bed unable to sleep at 2 am i began projectial puking all over my cell, I puked and puked until I was puking up brown stomach bile which ate away at my gums it was so acidic

day 4: Severe puking, Severe diarrhea, Hearing voices, Delusional, Hallucinating horrible things, could not eat, had lost 10 pounds, was placed under close medical watch.

day 5-7: Could not hold down any thing, not even a sip of water, I would puke up anything i tried to swallow, followed by stomach bile, still delusional, thought there were dead people in the walls that were talking to me, at this point I had lost 15 pounds, I was down to 121 pounds and they were considering transferring me to a hospital if I lost any more weight

day 8: I could finally hold down water, and some jello, I was no longer delusional, my sanity was returning.

day 9-14: Severe full body twitches, every 40 seconds or so my entire body would jerk, all i could do is lay in my bunk and twitch all day because the twitches would interrupt my speech, or i would drop things if I tried to carry them (like my lunch tray) I had to have someone deliver my meals.

day 40: I was up to 160 pounds, had anxiety still from the benzo withdrawl.

Lesson: Never become that dependent on drugs like opiates or benzos, use them in moderation or you will eventually go through hell. HELL, I MEAN HELL MAN LISTEN TO ME.

That sounds like the worst WD experience I've ever heard. That must've been so extremely difficult...and while in jail too. Good job on surviving it, seriously. That is really scary that you were still feeling WD after 40 days, can you tell me when you noticed only having one WD left? Bzd's probably lasted past opiate WD, I am guessing.

The opiate WD lasted about 7 days
the benzo withdrawl took about 3 days to kick in but then for a week I was insane, delusional, hallucinating, making a fool of my self, and for the next week or so I had severe full body jerks/twitches so I guess i realized I only had one WD (benzos) on about day 8 and it lasted noticeably until about day 14.

I had a similar experience a couple summers ago when I was arrested for a probation violation. At the time I was taking 24mgs of Subutex a day and 4mgs of klonopin a day. The county I live in is known to have one of the worst jails in America, especially for medical help. I was given nothing and had to go through that cold turkey. I still have nightmares about it. The subutex w/d lasted about 13 days and the klonopin w/d lasted about 20 days, but I didn't even feel normal yet when I got out 39 days later. I still had visual disturbances and just didn't feel right. I never ever felt right again actually and got back on the meds, but now I only take 1mg of klonopin a day in case I ever have to go through that again, it won't be nearly as bad. It was hell.

Can't imagine being forced to go cold turkey like that. Must have been hell for you.
I guess though if anything good can come from it then at least it has given you a heads up on what to expect during withdrawl and maybe even stop you getting a habit again.

Jesus man...that sounds awful. I'm currently only on day 3 of what I thought was a nasty w/d from a much milder opiate addiction and I'm suddenly damn grateful I am not in that position. Good for you getting through that though...just...wow.

I had a really bad Blow tar habit ( the stuff that is powder and then hits moisture and turns to tar) when i was living near portland, OR and i was working there and doing prolly about .3-.5 daily for about two and a half months. When i lost all my money to the habit and moved back to seattle about a year and a half ago i went through a cold turkey detox that was absolute hell. not nearly as bad as others but i wouldnt wish it upon anyone. didnt sleep for four days pretty much. pissing out my ass like crazy. you know the deal. gottta go.

What do you mean by visual disturbances? Hallucinations?

Personally I think I would rather go cold turkey as far as the opiates go. Why torture you self trying to ween down, I tried that dozens of times and it DOES NOT WORK. I honestly think the only way to quit a serious heroin/opiate addiction is to be institutionalized, no suboxone, nothing, puke it out, shit it out, sweat it out, after a week its over. As far as Benzos go, please get weened off, just... please benzo cold turkey is absolutely the worst thing I can ever imagine (especially coupled with opiate WD. It disgusts me that on jail they dont recognize that benzo withdrawl can cause SERIOUS health problems and that they arn't charged with medical malpractice. Unfortunately when your in jail, you are not a human being, and thats the sad truth, it really pisses me off.

Shit, this happened to me!! I wasn't in jail at the time, but I was coming off a year of 2mg daily of clonazepam and a period of daily binge of Poppy pod/seed tea and fentanyl use. My symptoms were not as strong as yours, particularly for the opiates, but the benzo WD was unbearable. I remember being terrified of the pictures on the wall, unable to leave the couch, shaking and kicking uncontrollably, forgetting where I was and what was happening to me, etc. Also, whenever I tried to sleep, I got horrific sleep paralysis in which I was certain demons were going to kill my GF and steal my soul. The opiates took about a week to kick, the benzos at least 30 days (and I had been tapering a bit prior).

Good job getting off man, I cannot congratulate you enough (esp. considering you were in jail, dear god! 8(). In my opinion anyone who is able to kick both simultaneously deserves a massive fucking medal. Also, I can sympathize w/ your lasting anxiety, the dual WD can be downright traumatizing.
