I'm a 21 year old male college student who has no place to live. I have no money to pay rent. My parents kicked me out so I can't stay with them and they told other family members not to take me in so "I learn my lesson"

HERES MY DEAL:

SLEEP - Laid out a bunch of blankets in the bed of my truck and have pillows so I actually don't mind sleeping in it.

FOOD - My parents will let me in the house for a few minutes to grab some food, I usually just grab some cans of soup and stuff like that. So I'm alright on the food situation

Hygiene - Here is my problem.... I've got deodorant, toothbrush/paste, hair products, few kinds of cologne, and a bar of soap. My parents used to let me stop by the house to take a shower and grab food, but now for whatever reason I am not allowed to shower there.

Everyone needs to shower anyways, but I'm a college student 3 days a week and definitely need to shower for class and the ladies.

My Question to you awesome bluelighters is.... Can anyone recommend a place where I can shower without having to pay.... meaning I can't shower at a gym since i have no membership, the school showers are only in the athletic locker rooms, and I just have no idea where to go.

If I could just get my shower situation under control I'll be doing just fine living on the streets, a bonus of the streets is that I spend a lot more time here at school studying and such versus sitting at home and being a lazy asshole.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

ALSO... I don't wanna bug friends to ask if i could take a shower.. and they all live with their parents anyways

How long you been kicked out for? How you got internet access? Just wondering, I was in a similiar situation when my dad kicked me out for relapsing on heroin too many times. I was living in the back seat of my dodge stratus though, which is pretty small for a tall guy like myself. I used internet by having my laptop and stealing wifi from stores/unsecured connections wherever I could find, so that was no problem. I never really cared to much for hygiene when i was homeless though, then again i wasnt going to college. But i cant see it being too hard to sneak into a college locker room or some place that has showers and act like you belong there. I would just occasionally take a shower at a friends though. Or you can always use public restrooms (isolated ones are the best for this) and wash your face/body with water from the sink, just bring some soap and shampoo...people do it all the time in the NYC subway bathrooms, lol! Well i only went there once but everytime i went in there was a homeless dude who looked the dirtiest he could look showering in the sinks. Thats cool they at least give you food, I had foodstamps at the time so that covered it. Good luck bro

Why did you parrents kick you out of the house? Was it because of drugs if so what drug were you doing?

Find a homeless shelter in your area. Either that or go to the salvation army, they usually have showers there you can use.

I guess I should ad this too

You need to re evaluate your life and get it back on track. Your acting like this really isnt a big thing but this could change the whole course of your life depending on what your into. Turn around now before its too late. That line in the sand is hard to see and once your over... Too late!!!

yes drugs. I was addicted to Oxy/heroin but quit cold turkey so I could stay in my house. I am given random UA's and have been passing them but over the weekend I smoked some bud with friends because I hadn't smoked in almost a year. I assumed parents wouldn't care because it wasn't opiates and I had smoked weed for about 3 years straight through high school and into college and they knew about it.

No i totally understand, I mean i don't enjoy living on the streets I'm just saying that i'm managing. And i'm still getting myself to school which is huge.

I'm actually at school right now using the ones here. I've only been out since Monday but there doesn't seem to be any end in the near future. I'll try checking out the locker room showers to see if it's something i could do. I have class Monday, Wednesday, and Friday so I really only need to be clean on those days.

Thanks for the replies.

Everyone should experience homelessness at least once in their life. The dude's doing fine.

There are some trucker gas stops that have public showers n such for people who have been driving for several days. Might be worth a shot looking it up on Google Maps, but it may be too far of a drive than you would be willing to take.

im sure the school will have showers you can use. If not try going to public pools they usually have a shower to rinse off in, but if youre quick you could soap up. Do you have an income? Gym memberships can be cheap, and if you could buy a van or even maybe a cover for you truck bed its almost like you have a room. I used to have a big van that i took the back bench seats out of and it was huge inside. You could do that and if you have a laptop just park by somewhere with free wifi and you can relax in the car and chill out.

Ive even seen people with this type of setup with tvs and microwaves set in the back of the van. Seriously like a studio apartment and if you have a gym you can go workout take a shower then just go back and kick it in you car. Kinda sucks but its possible to have it set up pretty good and youre saving a ton on rent.

The YMCA allows you to both get yourself clean AND have a good meal. In fact, there are those who have claimed you can do whatever you feel, but I'm not sure if the last one is true.

I dunno, I'm of the school of thought that absolutely no one should have to know what it's like to be homeless, but I can see where such a situation for a short period of time would allow for some life skills to be learned and for appreciation of small things to be garnered. I don't think it's necessary for people to be homeless to possess said qualities though :P

Oh yeah, one more thing: The trucker stops that offer showers make you pay for them. They're usually a couple bucks for about ten minutes' time from what I've seen. Then again, I obviously haven't been to every truck stop so maybe there are some out there that offer free showers.

Anyway, try to find a homeless shelter in your area and see if they can recommend something to you. As soon as you can, start trying to rebuild your relationship with your parents and work very hard at letting them know that you now understand and appreciate everything they've done for you (hell, say this whether you do or don't because it's the kind of thing parents wanna hear in this sort of situation :P). Lastly, a couple of posters have mentioned places like the YMCA, your college, and gyms with cheap memberships. I would imagine that it's easy to just walk into your college's showers without being questioned. I mean, I've never heard of anyone getting ID'ed at the shower door. Besides, if you're a college student, shouldn't you have access to the showers that are at this sports facility? I could be wrong but it's worth a shot 'cause the worst thing that could happen is someone would ask you to leave. Good luck with your situation and I hope you can get back to your parents' place soon.
