Hi all.

Yesterday I attended a one-on-one HIV ed meeting. Mandated by my outpatient. It was with an RN and lasted 90 minutes.

Together we assessed how "at risk" I was for contracting HIV in the past year. At first I thought, "I'm not going to explicitly say what I have done." But I did. The first difficult question was, "How many partners have you had in the last year?" I refused to estimate. Then I did. There were more questions. I admitted to behaviors while on MDPV and other substances which lowered my inhibitions.

After we determined play-by-play that I was at very high risk; I was not sitting easy. She went on to prepare me for a positive result. She helped me create a preliminary safety plan by determining things such as who I would tell, if my previous partners were locatable, whether I would tell them or have the Health Department tell them, who I would use for support, the risks of relapse, etc.

At the end, we did a Rapid-Test and, alas, it was Negative. I'm going to get tested again in 3 months.

The biggest reason I didn't use condoms with some of my partners (other than being inhibited) was that my partner approximated "NO I DON'T LIKE CONDOMS". And like a FOOL I did not argue much.

I never walked out of an office feeling in such a daze, a strange sort of sober existence. I will NEVER have unprotected sex with a new partner again.

I've never had 1-on-1 HIV education. It is the way to go. Wrap it up y'all.

That sounds like it must have been a very sobering experience.. I am sure so many of us have been there in situations where we put ourselves at risk by beig disinhibited, or not thinking, or assuming that just the once is okay and it would never happen to us...

It is such an important message to always use a condom and always be careful! We humans tend to believe we are invincible at times, but unfortunately we are not..

I hope your 3 month test is negative too and it sounds like you have taken a lot of positives from the experience! Thank you for sharing it - hopefully anyone reading this will decide to be really careful from now on too.

Good luck with your 3 month test <3

Guy: "I don't like condoms."

Girl: "Well, you must not like pussy, then."

Yea that shit really is a wake up call I finally manned up and got tested a couple months ago after a few years of wreckless IV drug use. Luckily I am negative but I just got extremely luck.

Glad it turned out alright. I did some work that involved getting to meet many patients with HIV and it's amazing the stigma that is still attached. Some people won't even shake their hand! It's ridiculous.

It seems to actually be quite well treated with the medications that are available these days. Just about everybody I met was able to prevent the progression to AIDS with their treatment. I suspect that there is still much to learn.
