Hi, everybody,

My name is Juniebun and I'm from Maine. Originally, I'm from Massachusetts, but I moved to Maine and married my husband. We have two golden retrievers.

I deal with ocd, generalized anxiety and depression. I take liquid Sertraline, Klonopin and Abilify. And, oh yeah, caffeine. I want to get off the caffeine because I think that it affects my medication, but I'm addicted to it. Any thoughts on the effects of caffeine on psychiatric medications? I sometimes feel like the caffeine makes me tired.

Well, thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself. Look forward to hearing from everybody.

Thanks again,

Juniebun

Welcome to bluelight!
Good to have you on board:)

Like my buddy above me said mental health is most likely where you will get the best answers.

Caffeine can cause or worsen psychiatric symptoms. It has the potential to interact with many psychiatric medications. Caffeine is metabolized by the CYP1A2 enzyme and also acts as a competitive inhibitor of this enzyme. This means caffeine can interact with a wide range of psychiatric medications, such as antidepressants, antipsychotic meds, antianxiety medication, and sedative agents. These interactions may lead to caffeine-related or medication-related side effects that can complicate psychiatric treatment.
I recommend tapering your use of caffeine and trying to stay away from it.

Good luck on the forums
