If I work out while under the influence of H does that hinder muscle production or anything? someone told me it was a waste and it wasn't helping me at all, they said it caused atrophy rather than building any muscle.

can anyone give me information backing up either side?

thanks

Your friend likes to make up things because he is ignorant and it makes him feel better about his lack of intelligence.

It is OK to work out on heroin. Perfectly normal. It won't hinder muscle growth. I did plenty of muscular work outs while under the influence of heroin and I grew muscle just as easily as if I wasn't using.

Is it OK if I close this now? Just tell your friend he's st00pid and he needs to get edumacated.

OK cool thanks man. His reasoning was that ecstasy causes you to actually lose muscle when you work out, he thought that maybe this was the case with H.

P.S. i like your name btw lol

Hm...well, I don't think that's even true about MDMA either.

I'm pretty sure he made that up too by the way, but I'm 100% certain that heroin is not like that at all.

Thank you for the user name compliment.

I'm going to leave this open for someone to explain a little bit more in depth about this if they care to. If not, I'm going to lock this pretty quickly.

I would think that any CNS depressant would make it more difficult to exert yourself fully, no?

For a cardiovascular work out, possibly.

But, that's if you have no tolerance as well. Someone with a tolerance to heroin isn't going to be all F'd up and unable to run correctly.

For muscular work outs, you'll be able to exert yourself as full as you need to.

Would something like cocaine make a difference since it seems to constrict veins?

and it raises the heart rate. I'd be afraid of tachycardia or dehydration if I were working out after a speedball, but I dont see any problems working out on heroin only.

Oh fuck yes - cocaine, amphetamines, meth, etc - all horrible for working out.

The one time I tried running on d,l-amp I nearly blacked out.

Fun, and it was motivating and I ran quite well, but it's bad. I don't like stimulants as is - but for exercise they are horrible.

if you want a seizure or heart attack when lifting weights go ahead

I actually dont lift weights, but I was wondering if it would slow muscle growth from less blood and oxygen getting to them. And I asked because I thought it related to the op's post as his friend has all kinds of wacky ideas, and we might be able to help him names of drugs that may actually slow muscle growth.

what workouts aren't cardiovascular? if you're attempting to differentiate the two simple ideas of burning fat and putting on muscle, then i see your point. however, your little heart should be pounding if you're running 3 miles or pounding out weights no matter the exercise. i would agree you would be no where near your full potential on exerting yourself. going through the motions is one thing, but actual success in gaining muscle through pushing your body is another.

to the OP, why don't we lay off the drugs for a day, and bust our ass in the gym? you tear your body up doing H so what's wrong with some helpful exercise as sober as you can be?

Doing Heroin and working out will be a waste of Heroin. It may/does feel good some times after a good hit to really push your self, after all Heroin is named thus making you feel heroic. In reality youll be sober/not feeling your Heroin much sooner if you do alot of strenious activitie. So, If its not a precious comodity and you have all the H you need to spare than work out as much as you want.

does it metabolize faster when you work out or something? i always notice if i work out on opiates i'll feel like an opiate high when i normally would have a 'runner's high' and it makes the opiate high stronger while i'm exercising.

How do u know this? What's the physiological basis for your assumptions? Did u just make it up cuz it sounds right? How does the "heroic"part fit into the whole?:\

No working out, whatever you're doing, won't speed up the drug clearance and metabolism of heroin/morphine. Maybe it'll help with cannabis, since it's so lipid soluble. There's several article floating about how exercising may affect cannabis drug testing. But I digress and that's a different topic altogether.

The main thing you have to worry about is causing damage. Heroin is a potent analgesic, and since you're high and euphoric, you may overdo it and not notice pain.

I agree with thugpassion. It's a waste. Why not dose after you work out?

Muscular work outs are not cardiovascular.

You have to sustain a cardiovascular work out for at least 30 minutes for it to accomplish positive benefits for your heart (this means you'd have to be running/jogging/walking and have a significantly increased heart rate/breathing rate/blood pressure). Anything significantly less than that doesn't do much benefit in terms of building your heart up.

Merely breathing and huffing and puffing doesn't constitute a cardiovascular work out.

I'm going to close this now.

I don't think working out on heroin is a waste - the euphoric effects from a work out + heroin is a rather pleasant experience. I can understand not everyone digs it though - most people who use heroin like to nod off and appear to be content like a napping infant whilst drooling on themselves.

I'd imagine the benefits you get are dependent on what shape you're in. For someone in horrible shape I could see even 10-15 minutes of cardiovascular work at their target heart rate being beneficial.

You also have to take into account the cardiovascular workout being performed and at what exertion level it gets performed at. I read recent articles that someone exercising all out(to the point of almost collapsing) in short bursts equal in benefits to much longer work outs at the normal pace. Normal pace being where you can hold a conversation with someone while you're doing your thing on the treadmill, elliptical, whatever.

Interesting question, you pose? I gotta say, I do it all the time. I mostly do cardio. But, i can easily run 10 miles on H. I developed gr8 leg muscles, very toned. For me, it entirely enhances my workout mood.

I would also have to agree that heroin would do nothing to hinder the growth of your muscle.

If you get too high you might not be able to push yourself as hard/lift as much, especially if you aren't tolerant. However, opiated or not, the amount of work you exert on your body will determine muscle growth.

Heroin certainly has nothing to do with hindering muscle growth. That is completely dependent on how hard you worked out as well as what you eat after you work out (so important!). If you didn't lift as much weight or complete as many reps/sets because you were high, then yes your body wont acquire as much strength and increase in muscle mass. However, this is completely dependent on the fact that you didn't work out as hard. Your muscle will still show the same growth if you did the exact same workout not under the influence of heroin.
