My partner has severe chronic anxiety/grief/addiction issues. He cut down from heavy daily Kratom use - stopped everything briefly - and is now on this combination. Is it a safe and sustainable for an addict?:

On alternating days:

  • Day 1: 4g Kratom (caps)
  • Day 2: 2 x 300g Gabapentin (unprescribed)
  • Plus 10mg Valium every night
  • Plus prescribed 40mg daily Fluoxetine (antidepressant).
Please, I need to know if this is going to work for him or if it's likely to spiral again.

4 grams of kratom a day is pretty benign. I take 22 grams per day ( in 5 doses ) and am perfectly good to go. I take it for mood lift and anxiety.

600 mgs of gabapentin is also pretty benign. I would take 1600 mgs at a time and still be ok ( just a little lightheaded).

10 mgs of valium a night is a reasonable dose to sleep ( Hell, when I did pills I did 40 mgs at a time )

And the fluox is also pretty benign. Because that is a prescribed dose.

Sounds like he is doing pretty well. Problem comes in when people pop kratom, gabapentin, and valium all day every day. He sounds like he is low dosing substances on alternate days and being smart about it.

Only doing one substance ( and in low doses daily ) is the way to go to not get too dependent on any one substance. I don't think he will spiral unless he ups his doses and starts mixing stuff on the daily.
