So here I am.

A 21-year old applied physics student, living in the Netherlands. I'm a real music lover, mostly these kinds of music - ambient, post-rock, progressive rock, stoner/doom metal, and many other genres.

I started trying out drugs this summer. I started with a full dose of truffles. (Psilocybe atlantis, 15 gr.) This wonderful experience led me to trying out many more - LSD, DXM, MDMA, and my latest: truffles in combination with MAOI's.

As a scientifically interested person, I am interested in mainly psychedelic drugs. It's amazing what it can teach you about how your brain processes information, how information from your sensory devices arrives, etc, etc. I think these drugs can teach you a lot about yourself, and the world, if used with care and from time to time.

I joined here to learn about all those chemicals which are around but not very well-known. And also to share my experiences and learn from others. Because not all of my friends share this new interest, or let's say... Passion!

Greets!

We have much in common! I'm a grad student studying mathematical physics in the USA. Three years ago when I was 20 I had my first psychedelic experience (2c-P). My friends at the time thought I was going off the deep end but they eventually ended up trying some of them and well, we haven't stopped ;). Its endearing to see people in the hard sciences interested in drugs...most of the ones I know in these fields would think I was out of my mind if they knew what I was into. Or maybe they just need an introduction...

We love us some educated folks round here :) Can't wait to see your posts!

Hah, thanks, I'll try to use my brains when posting here. I am already amazed by the knowledge of a lot of users posting here.

Sounds like you have an awesome taste in music! Do you like noise music, as in Merzbow?

Welcome to Bluelight!

Yes! I do. I find noise music really relaxing at times, sometimes when I'm really tired, with a headache, I turn on some noise really loud, and it seems to give me new energy. I also like drone music. Lately my lover introduced me to 833-45, which is some sort of astronomical drone music, using samples the artist collected from electromagnetic signals all over the world.

And of course noise is great to listen to on a drug like LSD, because you really seem to perceive all frequencies more in larger depth than being sober.

Thanks! Yes, there do not seem to be many drug users in my study, however, some of my friends are. 2 years ago I started a study biology - and switched to physics after one year because I loved the mathematical subjects of bio the most. The stereotypical biology students is a hippie, environmentalist, and more likely to do psychedelic drugs than physics students. I think this might be partly true.

Physics seems to be mainly men who've at least skipped one class somewhere in primary/secondary school, have a good healthy 'structure' in their daily life and motivation to study in their life, (not very outgoing and to call it bland, a bit boring) and a bit more naive on most life issues than I saw with bio students.

Also, the city I study in houses many sororities and fraternities. The city itself is quite small, but larger cities are very near and good to reach by the railway net. Because the city itself is not that interesting, almost everyone here joins a sorority or fraternity. (I do not know the word in English, but it's this student organisation, and both men and women can join) These fraternities however are mostly about drinking as much beer as possible, and doing activities which I consider useless and remembering as much 'traditions' from older times of these fraternities.

So, to summarize: most fellow students of mine do not use psychedelic drugs, and will tell you it's a bad idea, and quote Mr. Mackey, (Drugs, are bad, m'kay?) but do drink enough alcohol each week to be considered an alcoholic.

That sounds almost exactly like my undergraduate experience. I suppose some things translate very well across borders! What sounds particularly familiar (besides the alcohol-centric nature of sororities and fraternies 8)) is how "bland" most people in the hard sciences are. However, I've found a lot of students of these hard sciences are often curious and open minded about experimentation with psychedelics once they get some exposure to drugs - its just because they are so grounded and structured in their lives (which I believe is a positive quality) they often get no exposure to different substances. I've introduced a few closer friends in the sciences to psychedelics and they have been very into it all :). The mental exploration of psychedelics complements the nature of scientific study in some interesting ways.

On the other hand, the fraternity types...they just love their alcohol.

Awesome!!! I have never heard of 833-45 but they sound really cool. I haven't listened a lot of drone recently but I have certainly been interested in it in the past.

Merzbow does some drone-ish music, which is more of a clash between dark ambient/drone/noise. But anyways this is by far some of my favorite work of his.

I love listening to experimental music, especially on LSD. %)
