Harm Reduction Heating Pills -- toxic byproducts?

A method of defeating the new OPs calls for grinding to a powder, then heating (with microwave or oven) until the powder turns golden brown. It is effective for defeating the gel, however I'm not sure if this is healthy.

The fact that it changes color suggests that chemical reactions are happening. Is it reasonable to worry about the heat inducing reactions that produce toxic chemical byproducts of either the oxycodone or pill binders? If so, how much of a health threat would you estimate it to be?

(mods: If this looks familiar, I made a thread previously about the possible dangers specific to microwaves, and received clear answers, but forgot to ask about the dangers of heating in general)

I'm not disagreeing, but just because something turns color doesn't mean it changes or has chemical reactions. It can simply be burning. We'll never know until someone does a full analysis on a OP and then microwaves one and does the same thing.

I worry about that shit too. Glad I don't have to deal with those things anymore, but I'm sure I'll end up doing it again eventually. If I had a script of 100 or so I'd definitely be worried, but for me once in awhile isn't really concerning.

The best chemistry teacher at my school told me that a change in color = change in light-reflection properties = change in chemical structure = chemical reaction, 99% of the time. And also, "burning" is a chemical reaction, it's called a combustion reaction.
