Hey all, I have a question about racing heart during amphetamine use. I have these pills, propranolol, which are supposed to slow your heartbeat. Is it safe to pop one of these to help with my heartbeat after taking amphetamines? I won't use it til I get some feedback. Of course, this is not the kind of question I can ask my dr as I am not prescribed legal amphetamines. Thanks!

It should be okay, it's not uncommon for propranolol with amphetamine to control the twitchiness and tremors it can cause.

A low dose of atenolol, like 12.5 to 25 mgs works great for rapid heartbeat... it does nor cross the bbb and specifically blocks adrenaline to the heart, I have heard carvedilol works real good too. I think it would be better than the prop bit to answer u I have heard of prop being used like above poster said.

You're just masking the issue. While it's common to have a faster heart beat after amphetamine use, it's abnormal for it to be out of control to the point of discomfort and other symptoms. What you need to do is prepare your body right, which doesn't take much.

- Drink pedialyte, 2-3 liters a week - this is very important

- Eat enough food and don't skip any meals, eat well

- Don't do heavy psychical activity when you are on amphetamines

- Take multivitamins daily (the kids kinds light on the stomach)

I also noticed if your nasal is congested it creates anxiety thus causes faster breathing, and then in return you wind up with an even faster heart rate. The calmer you are, the better.

Yes, I'm aware that it's just masking the issue, but I sometimes get paranoid about a racing heart, which causes it to beat even faster. Staying calm is easier if I know my heartrate is not overly fast.

Propranolol couldn't hurt. Be sure to stay at the recommended dose since an excess of the stuff creates a paradoxical reaction causing more anxiety. This is a trait common to beta-blockers, the problem is if you block too many beta-adrenergic receptors all that adrenaline is going to bind at alpha sites instead.
