Has drug usage increased in the last 30 years?

Good Evening,

I am a University student studying, drug sales online and was wondering if any of you believe that drug usage has increased or that maybe the media is portraying the use of drugs to be excessive or that it's just easier and a more profitable business since the 2000's. Other than that how do you get your drugs? through dealers or online sources? Just a little curious as this is for my dissertation and just wanted to see if there is a general consensus for this kind of thing.

Thanks for you time!

I get mine through dealers and word of mouth. A lot of people also get drugs sent to them through the mailing system - USPS, UPS, Etc. It really depends on what drug you’re talking about. Illegal drugs such as heroin, meth, or coke are almost entirely sold face to face - on the street, or sent through the mail. Other drugs, such as etizolam (benzo analog), are sold on the dark web or other places online. Really just depends on the legality of each drug and how the feds schedule them. Hope that helps.

I don't think use has increased. Here's a few reasons why I think so:

1. Look back to the 70's and 80's where everyone was dropping acid, smoking pot, coked out of their minds, and had qualudes. What all changed since then? We don't have qualudes anymore but we now have fentanyl. We've simply let one die out and created another.

2. If you ask the older generations who grew up back then (And they are honest) most of them will tell you they'd tried multiple drugs.

3. With the internet becoming a big thing and the invention of social media I feel we simply have more of this information at our finger tips now rather than a larger user population.

4. Although only pot, The fact is when I was in school 20 years ago an anonymous research study showed more than 50% of the ADULT population admitted to DAILY smoking of cannabis. We're still pretty divided in the legalization across the country with many states who approve cannabis dispensaries/laws being not far over the 50% mark when voted on.

I guess that's all I got for now. I'm sure I could come up with more if it wasn't just off the top of my head. ?‍♂️
