Halo: Reach (Beta)

I would love to play it. Halo is my only passion still lingering in gaming.

From what I've read and seen, it might just become a very solid game.

Wow. Just watched a couple vids. I saw the pistol from h1 which would be sweet but, I'm not sure if you can zoom with it.

Not sure how I feel about the animated sword and neck break kills. Seems like it'd slow ya down a bit and would be one of those things people avoid doing. Overall it looks good jetpacks and all. Might actually give me a reason to pick up my 360 controller again. If this game is good though I'm gonna be obsessed with halo again :\

I'm pretty sure that as of right now they allow you to zoom with the pistol. Keep in mind that it's only the beta version though. And it looks like the more you fire, the bigger the aiming reticule gets, which forces you to fire slowly to keep a good aim.

And yea, I agree about the animations they added in. Looks like they will be stupid, cause there are only two ways they can implement that.

1. You are invincible when you're performing the animation move (lame).
2. Someone can just come up and assassinate you when you're still stuck for that second or two performing the animation (also lame).

And I have ODST, so when I can find the beta code I'll post it. I'll also post some sort of review once I play it a little later tonight.

That's a clever way to balance the pistol n BR. Please do post a review. I'm curious to see what another seemingly vet thinks of it. It is the beta but they didn't change much the last time they ran one. Hopefully optimistic about a h1 pistol.

Yea I have easily spent multiple thousands of hours playing the Halo series, so I do consider myself very experienced. Definitely played 1 and 2 the most by far though.

Only had time to play 2 games last night, as I am in final exams week, but it was very cool. The game itself looks sharper visually than all the others (even on my shitty mini tv), but that is to be expected. As far as gameplay goes, it is a very different game.

At the start of the game and at each spawn, you get to choose 1 of 4 specialty moves to spawn with. Here they are

1. Jetpack - you can fly for limited amounts of time with a jetpack. The amount of fuel you have is noted above the radar, and taking your hand off LB restores your fuel.
2. Stealth - you are invisible when crouched or standing still.
3. Action - you can sprint for limited amounts of time, like jetpack.
4. Defense - this is the one I know the least about. Your spartan pounds his fist into the ground, creating a field of energy (which I believe hurts enemies in your immediate vicinity), while you keep holding the button down, you are invincible to MOST enemy attacks (I believe bullets and explosions at least).

But yea, that should give a brief idea of the new things available in Reach. Although there are only those 4 special moves, they greatly alter gameplay. It really shakes things up when an invisible guy pops out of nowhere, and equally catches you off guard when 2 or 3 guys randomly drop out of the sky above you on jetpacks.

I'll be really interested to see what other lifelong fans think about these new changes, as they offset the balance of power that Halo has worked so hard to create from the beginning. I remember the days of joking with my less experienced friends and telling them that my masterchief was faster than theirs, and saying elites could jump higher, and stupid stuff like that. But now there actually will be instances when I'm trying to run away with a flag or something and other players are faster/can jump higher, etc. This will really change up strategy.

Pretty cool idea. Could really spice things up. Probably make ctf and other objective games a real motherfucker though. I'd be willing to bet that hardcore variants won't even have em. Still cool though and sounds like fun. Only thing is now I'm gonna have to get another/renew my xbl membership

Yea it will definitely shake up objective based games. Plus they added some new variants like "generator defense" and I think a new one with multiple flags. They also have a new zone to play in called The Arena, which puts you into a division and ranks you against other players.
