Guidelines for Moderators - what do you think mods should / should not be doing?

I closed that thread originally because I thought it had the potential to cause some damage.
I sleep better at night knowing that I have you around to protect us Horse.
If we said "psyentist and Daq, please let the forum run how you want it to run" everything would be rosy wouldnt it??
Probably not, but it would be a hell of a lot more fucking fun than things have been around here lately.
Not that you care, but the job of mod involves looking after peoples best interests, not just a select few who insist on chatting in every single thread.
OK, from now on I'll ask your permission before I talk in any thread that I wish.
Its no surprise people are getting sick of it. Its such a damn fucken exclusive social club, and I know that most of us are getting pretty sick and tired of it.
Grow up a little and maybe we'll let you join our club.

What does it matter if it was? Was it really hurting anyone?

You don't need to be an asshole at all. I'm the moderator of a messageboard on my own website (which gets a lot more posts than this board) and I've never felt the need to act like the thought police.
And I don't know you, so I'm not sure if I like you or not. Remember what we're all getting high and mighty about here - a messageboard on the internet.
Isn't this all about entertaiment? You can't seriously expect me to not socialise in the social forum, can you?

Then suddenly you seemed to have a big change of heart for some reason. No one was offended so what changed? Even if it was a joke around or not, its no business of yours to close it. What about when you Munke and Haste posted about Barbera? Unlike the thread you closed NO ONE(except you guys) even had an idea what that was on about. I didnt care tho. I just stayed out of it and let you guys had your fun.! Closing threads where ppl are having fun just makes you a hypocrite as i said before. Live by your own rules or you shall die by them.
About the whole moderator thing. Well i actually think all you guys do a fairly good job and you all have my respect. The only suggestion is that some of you need to learn a bit more respect for other peoples thoughts.
Anyways Mikey, i know(at least i hope) that you dont take any of this personally cause i look forward to getting very drunk with you many times over summer man.!

OK. Mr Horse. You know i think you have done a good job as a mod. I have told you this on a number of occasions and i have also told a number of others this as well. So i hope you dont take my replies as personal attacks on you either. They are not. You worked your ass off in Meetups for a long long time by yourself so for that alone you have got big respect from me.
But i really cant share your view about how things were better 'in the old days'. How blueight has lost its 'charm'. You sound like one of those ravers who goes on and on relentlessly about how the parties they first went to were so much better than the ones on now. No one really pays much attention to them and for good reason. It is not neccesarily the parties that change, it is them. Bluelight may not be as exciting for you as it once was but everyone else does not necesarrily share you view. I CAN understand your point tho man, but when things are new they always seem more exciting than when you have been doing something for a while. People seem to have a big tendency to romantasize the past. Maybe you are over bluelight. Just dont bitch and moan about the old days being better and having better people. No one else really wants to hear it. Bluelight is not an unplesant place at all, its a shame if you think that way.
Now about closing that thread. I know why you did it. I understand your reasons. You say it yourself. Potential trouble. That is not a good enough reason at all. You CAN NOT second guess what people are going to write man. It is not fair. Your opinion does count just as much as anyone elses but dont let your opinoin interfere with others. It is not fair and its wrong also. I do not have a problem with people who stand up for what they believe in, i do have a problem with people who by standing up for what they believe in are messing with other peoples chances to do the same.
You also say that this is an exclusive social club? I actually dont know exactly what you mean by that but i take it you are referring to the 'clicky bullshit' talk that sometimes goes on. If that's what you mean i can actually see your point on that. As much as i hate that stuff i am guilty of it but it is bound to happen when you have people who you consider good friends all posting here. There is really nothing you can do about it and i think everyone who knows a few people on here is guilty of it at times, even you. Hopefully it just doesnt scare away newbies who may get the impression that this is an exclusive social club. It would be sad if thats what they thought. At meetups i always try to make an effort to talk to anyone who is new, sometimes i dont always get the chance to do it but i really would hope no one would think that i am part of some bloody elitist group of bluelighters who will not talk to anyone but a select bunch, cause if that is what you are implying by exclusive social club, its wrong!.
OK..ive said enough. Just try not to take it personally man and remember that if you are a mod you are always going to get criticism. Also remember that just a few weeks ago you agreed with me when i posted that debate/arguing makes for some intersting reading hehe

yeah, i guess i did sound like a bit of an "old-skool" raver, but I just miss posts by the old doodes like pinger, smurf, dangermouse, apples, pillcat, johnboy (thats right, whose seen a post by him recently??) fireal, meth, magoo etc... the list goes on. I know we all keep in touch with them, but they have gone from bluelight, or at least dont post as regularly.
Anyway Daq, thanks for ur input, much appreciated. Nothin taken personally, love yoo love yoo long time. $2 jiggy jiggy for yoo!! (we'll have a beer b4 i leave)

Horse - I prefer to keep my Bluelight life and non-Bluelight life seperate. The board is part of my website and the website pays my bills.
I've been moderating messageboards for years now.
 
This isn't going to be as long as all the rest, but seriously MikeySammy said that he couldn't see the post going anywhere...

Honestly, like the Mun(x)e vs PIlet one is a bit gay & pointless for me, but thats because it's just all scattered babble about jungle animals.
Like if there is a conversation between friends that may not have much meaning, but has some form of structure, does it matter?
Like get over yourself.
The only thing *only* that needs to be moderated is dealing, all other talking should be fine, like this board is all about a drug people use to have fun, but they are restricted to only having serious conversations when on here... contradiction?

Well this little thread has been open for a bit over a week now. Thanks to everyone who took the time to contribute to it.
I'm going to leave it open for the rest of the day and then close it later tonight. So if you want to add anything please do it today.
I'll then collate all the suggestions people have made and develop some draft guidelines for moderators. I'll post the end product on bluelight either over the weekend or early next week.

keep it open finn, its a good place for people to express their "concerns" about bluelight.
and psyentist, the mods arnt going to change their style either.
