Yeah! Good people on here. Thanks again so much!

Got like 20 days or something 'til I see another show. I keep hearing rumors that phil is gonna call it quits soon, but that has been flying around...what feels like forever. I'll probably scramble to San Fran if they announce a NYE date, hopefully soon.

I hope Phil doesn't call it quits but he is 71 so there would have to be some understanding. They really should do some touring of the Southeast though if that is the case. Even if it isn't, they should. They definitely have fans down here :)

ok, so i haven't listened to this box set yet. to be honest, i've always been more of a 77 and later dead guy.

not to say i don't have my fair share of earlier shows that i enjoy, i just like late 70's and 80's dead better.

anyway...so i was looking through the setlists from this 72 Europe tour. TONS AND TONS of repeats.

the shows are fantastic, and i'm no huge dead collector, but i really don't see myself listening to all of these shows due to the high number of repeats.

again, this is certainly a must have for any big dead collector, which i am not. and i really only listen to the dead a few times a week these days, so i guess my excitement isn't what it would be if i was a big time collector.

but i'm just sayin. i'd love to see them release an entire late 70's or early 80's tour, mainly because of the diversity in the setlists.

there are only so many mr charlies and playins i can listen to before becoming board.

^ I hear ya...the thing that appeals the most to heads is the jam sections of these shows (PITB, DS, TOO, jam outta Truckin')

I enjoy exploritory jams, but i'm much more into the rock 'n roll aspect of the band, '77-'79 baby!

'78 is an example of there being many repeats each night, but god damn every show has a very disctinct sound to it, imo.

I'd love to see an April '78 or May '79(awesome tour, featuring mostly audience recordings...where da boards at?) box set release :) I can defiantly see a March '77 Winterland release or a May '77.

truckin jam and other one jams are nasty.

i have never liked dark star. there, i said it.

the noise and reverb from the early one's really really really gets on my nerves.

Chicken, no dark star?! Is this like, in concert and CD, or you just won't bust it out on CD. You craaaaazy. I used to say '78head for myself, though now I'm an '89head. IMO, '72 is the year that really took off, '78 is the year they could control the crowd completely, and '89 is the tightest the band was other than '78.

As for the repeats, well it was '72. I get what you're saying, it's just that their music selection was not nearly as large. I am having a lot of fun listening to the different ways they are pulling these sections off. The Other One > El Paso > Other One is a lot of fun, from I think a few but quite different each day. I'm quite enjoying the song selection, because I get too absorbed in 90's dead and JGB so it great to go back and hear things like BIODTL and Chinatown shuffle, which were long retired.

i understand, variety is the spice of life, especially as a dead head. i did listen to a couple of these last night and was very impressed. i get caught up in late 70's and 80's dead a lot as well and kind of forget about the early stuff. also, like you, i'm a total sucker for JGB and Legion of Mary.

it's a great box set, i just hope they continue the trend by releasing whole tours from later era's.

yea, dark star just doesn't do it for me. i need more structure. from a nostalgia stand point, i understand the relevance of the hampton 89 bustout and the nassau 90 with branford is pretty cool.

but i digress, it's just too much for me. you won't catch me sitting around listening to a 30 minute dark star from 1972. i just don't have the patience for it.

BUT....i do dig the hell out of the studio version of dark star. i think it's like 3 minutes long. lulz.

the actual song is awesome.
