Just got curious aboit their music, and chose this one video for obvious reasons. It's awesome, and I think watching this while on psychedelics might be even awesomer.

The song itself is too jazzy and too folky for my taste. Is this a typical Grateful Dead song, or are there other examples?

no bullshit they are part of the most dynamic social change of ALL FKN TIME.. this changed your life even if you never listened to them.

@neversickanymore That sounds challenging, and accurate. I guess you can't just summarize 30 years of work by suggesting two songs. My brother is a Jerry Garcia fan, but then my brother studied music, with a minor in jazz.
For me, jazz is chaotic. And though I like chaos in certain things, I don't like it in music. To me music is something to help relax, either by letting go of, or by getting deeper into moods.
So thanks for the offer, but I don't think I'm ready to take up the challenge (I also never got past one Jimi Hendrix song, another great musician).

You might want to start with this album from 1968:

Edited to clarify that even though I quoted @neversickanymore because of the excellent response I was really suggesting this to @lecroute

There is so much that goes along with the 50+ years of music. Here are two strong works that will give you a beautiful idea how then phenomenon of The Grateful Dead came to be.

Both of these have good versions on audible and one is on audible plus so free with a membership.

The bus came by and I got on, that's when it all began ...
It was cowboy Neil at the wheel of a bus to never-ever land

Found a copy of Rock Scully's book Living With The Dead. It almost reminds me of some Reddit posts of people who "know". I think Robert Hunter said it best in his letter to JG 1 year after he died. The part that said:

A slew of books have come out about you and more to follow. Perspective is lacking. It’s way too soon. You’d be amazed at the number of people with whom you’ve had a nodding acquaintance who are suddenly experts on your psychology and motivations. Your music still speaks louder than all the BS:

Also in Living with the Dead Scully said in 1981 Jerry took out his visine bottle full of acid and dosed Geraldo Rivera. Put 5 drops in his drink. I call BS on Scully!!
