that dark star --> wharf rat --> dark star is extremely special.

when they're coming back to dark star from wharf rat, weir starts noodling on this little riff that heavily emphasizes B, suggesting the aeolian mode instead of A mixolydian (as dark star is usually played), and jerry just takes it and runs with it, and they play an absolutely transcendent jam that's kind of like the B aeolian permutation of dark star. an extremely unique and special moment imho.

afaik its the only time they ever did that.

Man... I don't know what the FUCK you just said, little Kid, but you're special man, you reached out, and you touch a brother's heart.

Good times on phantasy tour many years ago. this kid got internet raped. pretty epic.

Getting pinned is a BIG deal, and its a huge thing. If its done right, its planned in advance and its a huge surpise to the kid in question.

My pinning was a huge deal, and happened the night after 10k after everyone left and our kids got permission to stay on the land for a few days and clean up before we left for yellowstone and glacier during the off days between 10k and seattle. Camp was kicking, a few off our kids where in the kitchen getting dinner ready, some kids where getting the fire started, and me and dawn and few others where out on a groundscore mission. This was just after the sun went down, we where walking up to camp (camp goodness sponsered by cookies, that is!!!) when 7-8 of our kids are walking towards me with this distinct look on their face. Now, about my actual pinning... Catch me in the real world sometime, ill tell you over a bowl, but something like that is just to personal to discuss over the internet. Lets just say it was special. I will say this, after i got pinned, dawn gives me this huge kiss and is like "baby you deserved that."
After i got pinned we all had a huge celebration. It was a special time. We had a huge family dinner, and after dinner a sheet was put in a bottle of orange juice and everyone was ceremonially dropped by the Rev.

Thank you so much for this <3
sure thing IB

that dark star --> wharf rat --> dark star is extremely special.
The was my forgone conclusion as well Roger

Neversick, I didn't know you were a deadhead! Nice to see you here!
=D.. I love em.. I'd have to say that widespreads my main group now.. but I'll hit a further or a dark star show with much joy. Well one more summer on the sidelines for me though.. but I will be back with a vengeance next festy season and I should be once again a regular at red rocks.

so - widespread, eh?

are you digging panic 3.0 with Jimmy? i think it's pretty solid, but i just can't get behind it like i could with mikey. i've tried and tried, but it just doesn't crush me like it once did.

the raliegh shows were pretty solid last weekend, and chattanooga was pretty good, but it got cut short. i think augusta tomorrow will be boss as shit.

do you get the mixlr app to stream their shows? free app, every show streamed live from a soundboard patch. technology is awesome. i remember waiting for months for the tapes of shows i used to go to.

man i can dig anything with jimmy herring. that guy can't even touch a guitar without something amazing happening.

Agreed, it just ain't my bag with panic. It's good and all, and he shreds faces, but I like my panic with Mikey. No disrespect. I still see panic 2 or 3 times a year and have a blast.

On topic, PLQ was such a great band.

I got a DUI in 98 wearing a Jazz Is Dead shirt, black cop was cuttin up with me at the station and was all, "white boy, jazz ain't dead".....then I explained what it was, and he was all denzelwashingtontrainingday.jpg

That was another awesome band

I agree with roger as I really like Jimmy.. Do I like it as much.. no, and I have only likely seen them five times in the distant past and was just happy to be seeing good live music. To tell you the truth I have been up on blocks for about five years.. Just had a five year run of whatever could go wrong did. Thankfully I pushed through.. or barring that crawled threw and now its been followed by almost two years of everything going right.. lady lucks a fickle women so I haven't been relying on her and have been making my own luck.. but nonetheless she has been coming through hard for me. So as i'm not quite above water yet
but the stars seem to finally aligned.. I will have to forgo any shows till spring next year if I want to ski 40 days this year. I will be back out in rado for fall and im sure I will hit some good music finally. Its fucked.. I haven't been to a single show in over a year:? Almost have my life back:)

I should look into that app.. My old friends Natron started a company doing that.. hadn't thought about it for a few years until you mentioned it.. but he was doing widespread shows im thinking four years or more ago when It was just getting going so I wonder if thats his company. will have to check it out.

Tapes.. lol.. we had like three different serious tapers with the kids I ran and still run with so I had to just figure out how to get them outta their sometimes reluctant hands.. a package store run or some such easy task was usually enough. So crazy thinking how much things have changed in such a short time.

the jazz is dead configuration w/ jimmy and T lavitz was unreal, one of the best groups ever imo

Y'all know ole T (RIP) was the original keyboardist for panic, right? I loved the Dixie dregs too.

Neversick, glad you're on the up and up. Check out mixlr....panic plays tomorrow in Augusta and you can stream it. 4 years ago the streams were hit or miss...mixlr is straight through the soundboard and official as fuck, although it sometimes skips and shit. If you ran with panic tapers back in the day, we probably have plenty of mutual friends.

Might I see you on phish tour? I can't make panic this year :(

Next year this could definitely be a possibility. I like hitting a Phish show or two.

Just realized im going to be on the front range right when WSP does their red rocks run and I think I have a line for tickets.. so I guess im not going to go showless this summer after all =D

re: 9/2/78

this jack straw is what turned me onto the song, it fucking rages, great way to open their first ever show at giants stadium, great show all around

a little trivia bit - during FOTD jer sings took my 15 dollar bill and vanished in the air - because tickets were 15 dollars(considered to be a lot of cash for a ticket at that time), the reason tickets were 15 dollars were because this was the night they announced theyd be playing in egypt - needed that cash to cover the costs of the trip i suppose

and re: the S>F, how dare you diss bobby weir - S>F are two songs that without weir, they wouldn't nearly be as awesome, like most of weir's playing you just gotta pay close attention, perhaps this isn't one of his better efforts but ya gotta realize the dude's playing isn't melodic, but his licks clash excellently with garcia's melodic shredding - great S>F indeed though
